Can anyone explain to me why my PS3 disconnects every laptop on my wireless network from the Internet when it boots up? This is what happens....
Laptops are connected to my network with full Internet access I turn on my PS3 It tried to connect to my network and succeeds My laptops lose Internet connection, then regain it 30 seconds later but AFTER my PS3 does It sees my TVersity media server, connects and then loses connection to it. 30 seconds later it finds it again and stays connected. This is the cycle that happens everytime I turn my PS3 on and it's really annoying me. My fiance sits next to me and is always on her laptop when I'm playing games or watching Blu-ray movies and it's annoying for her laptop to lose Internet connection for no reason like this. Any ideas? |

Linksys WRT54G - I have 1 desktop on connected wired to the network 24/7. 2 laptops connected wirelessly 24/7 and the PS3 which auto connects everytime I turn it on like it should. The network is set on channel 2 - 2.417 GHz and Wireless G only.

As an off topic note - every time i pick up the phone, the ps3's internet gets shut off. The pc right beside the ps3 works fine while im on the phone, but no ps3...

Dont waste your time with Linksys support. I know what your problem is. My sister has this router and what is happening is when the PS3 is connected to the WRT54G, it will randomly reboot the router. If you want to validate this, log into the linksys and go to the "Status" tab and you will see the IP reset every 15 to 30seconds. Something to do with the Linksys not liking the PS3. I have the WRT54GL and it does not have this issue.
To Fix this problem log into your Router, then go into the"Administration" tab , then "Management" and turn off the UPnP setting. I don't believe there's any other simple solution at this time either. You may also have to disable media server connection also in the ps3 settings. Possibly updating to a 3rd party firmware (DDWRT) might fix it but I've never done it on the WRT54G model. Google the Wrt54G and PS3 issues and you'll find tons of people having the same issue with that particular router. Last edited by les; 02-22-2008 at 02:53 AM. |

SBrooks, I have the same router and the same problem. Did not have the problem untill I enabled the media server on the PS3. I can disable the media server and it works fine. les's note may fix you up. I just leave it disabled unless I want to have family pic's on the TV or something. Think its just a Linksys thing. I'm gona get a different WIFI router at some time.

Researched a bit and found this. Follow this method and it appears by entering these rules into your router and should still have all the media sharing functionality.

Here is my theory.
I think your PS3 uses the last know ip address it had to communicate with your router. I believe your laptop probably uses that ip address to, also, communicate with your router. Therefore, the PS3 bumps heads with the laptop 'til another ip address is given from the router. Try giving the PS3 and the laptop separate static (permanent) ip addresses. See if that takes care of it. EDIT: LES's link confirms what I was thinking. You beat me to the solution LES! Damn u. LOL Last edited by Ascended_Saiyan; 02-22-2008 at 03:33 AM. |

Try changing your 802.11g channel to 1,6,11. Start with 11. I'm guessing that will solve your problem.
I'm bet the bluetooth controllers on your ps3 are interfering with your laptops' using channel 2. Your 2.4Ghz phone can also cause interference. Last edited by ge0ff73; 02-22-2008 at 04:04 AM. |

Highly unlikely (from the description), because every device that talks to a router or access point has to communicate on whatever channel the router or access point broadcasts on (usually channel 6 for 802.11b/g). So, they all NEED to talk on the same channel. Think of the channel as the wire.

Here is the router I bought: (was on sale for 50$ at the time). I have not had a single problem with it! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1173577562535 Anyway, to eliminate some of your issues I strongly suggest you disable Media Server in Network. I know you run Tversity (so do I) but one of the main issues with that Linksys and the PS3 IS the Media Server functionality. It never worked for me.. rebooted my router.. or lost connection with Tversity constantly. I had my network tech friend make all kinds of adjustments to the Linksys it never made a difference - and my NAT was always changing too. I had major issues connecting to UT3..the list goes on. Do yourself a favor and just buy another router. These issues are all over the Linksys forums and they don't seen to care at all. It has been over a year and Linksys has offered no real solutions. The channel issue, well, that should really only be pointed if someone if your immediate area has a Draft N router. Seems others hit the issue with that router specifically ![]() |

Had the issue too. the primary ip would get taken by ps3. I just had to assign it a diff ip. I have cordless phones and that never disconnected me. Why would a BT controller cause that? I highly doubt that. My laptop is in same room as ps3, nothing happens. Still have the linksys too.
