Default PS3 loads faster with FW 2.30!

Anyone noticed that? It's already the fastest compared to other standalones, but now it's even more!

The PS3 is now the ultimate power in the universe. I see no need to buy a stand alone player. However, I am contemplating picking up an additional PS3.

The streaming bug from 2.20 has been corrected with 2.30. I suffered from it, and that was the first thing I checked after updating.

It's funny that no one has really mentioned it yet. The frame stuttering was ba-aa-ad.

I also noticed that the PS3 does indeed spool up quicker for BDs after 2.3. The PS store navigation is also a heck of a lot quicker too.

Yes... I too thought it loads faster and wondered talking to myself "Is it a new feature of 2.30?"

OK, I was up all night long looking for a way to get my PS3 to play MP4 files. I understand that files bought in iTunes encoded in MP4 won't play on WMP11, but apparently there seem to be a number of work arounds. I've downloaded all kinds of codecs and messed with my Windows registry and still can't seem to get it right. I can now get WMP to recognize video files encoded in MP4 format, but they're categorized as audio files and I can't find a way to recategorize them so they're recognized as video files and can be streamed to the PS3. I have no problem accessing my home server, but I cannot get WMP to cooperate and let me customize things the way I want them. All the workarounds I've tried (and failed) or read about seem to have their issues. But there seems to be so much bad/misleading information that I gave up after eight hours. MP3s and MPEGs are streamed easily with WMP, but everything else is a pain. Is anyone familiar with this problem or know a solution that actually works and doesn't require advanced knowledge?

Like I say, I've gotten to the point WMP recognizes and plays MP4 video files by recognizing them as MPEGs, but the PS3 doesn't recognize streaming video coming from the WMP audio server. By the way, I'm running Vista Home Premium. I know there's no silver bullet here, but I figure there has to be some consensus on this forum concerning the best way to play MP4 files streamed to the PS3.

(OK, this is just a rant ... like I said in my first post in another thread, my finger get to typing sometimes and just don't stop). And the worst part about it is the media files I KNOW belong to me because I paid for it are the songs and videos with the least amount of flexibility. Every single episode of LOST I've bought through iTunes, every song and every movie I could have gotten for free if I wanted to, but didn't. But all other digital media -- ripped CDs, DVDs and the occassional downloaded torrent -- are flexible enough that I can actually enjoy them through the digital medium of my choice. I've never been a DRM proponent, but always thought I understood why it was necessary. That perspective, however, is beginning to change in a hurry. What's the point of paying for something if you can't use it as you please? And if I download torrents of every episode of LOST that can be played in DivX format, does that make me a criminal? I've already paid for every episode through iTunes -- every single one -- and even bought the third season on Blu Ray (which I already owned in iTunes). I wonder if Easynews is still around.
