Default BD Players that can output a 1080p/24 signal

The new BLU-RAY player section is the best link I have seen about information on new players.

This new BLU-RAY player section is amazing with pictures. Players can also be sorted by regions all around the world. And the discontinued models are also listed. I am going to discontinue updating my link since this new section is much better. I can always post review links and information in the new BLU-RAY player secction.. Also when I originally created my thread at BLU-RAY.com, the issue of 1080P/24 output use to be a issue but now every single BLU-RAY standalone player including the PS3 has 1080P/24 output. This 1080P/24 issue is a standard feature on all new BLU-RAY players.

There is a limitation to the amount of text that can be placed in a posting. So I had to separate the true 1080P/24 displays and the 1080P/24 HDTV players into two separate lists. Since all new BLU-RAY, HD-DVD, and Combo players in the future coming to market will support 1080P/24 the list of HDTV players is not as important as it use to be. Finding a true 1080P/24 display with correct refresh rate is still a important issue with many companies still making 1080P displays that only refresh at 60HZ or use 3:2 pulldown when refreshing 120HZ.

It appears that profile 1.1 movies will not be ready until early 2008. BLU-RAY and combo players that have the minimum hardware requirements for profile 1.1 and profile 2.0 will require a firmware update also to take advantage of profile 1.1 and profile 2.0.
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Dual-Format_Players/Hardware/Samsung/Samsung_Confirms_Profile_1.1_For_BD-UP5000_Dual-Format_Player/1103

So both the Samsung BD-UP5000 and LG BH200 will require a firmware update for PIP since only the hardware will be ready and the software needs to be completed. It takes longer to make software then to make hardware. This is what we need more companies announcing that their BLU-RAY and combo players meet the minimum hardware requirements for PIP (profile 1.1) and BD-LIVE (profile 2.0). This is useful information so that people know that when profile 1.1 and profile 2.0 is completed that a firmware update will be available.

If 120Hz refresh rates only multiples of 60, as in 60 x 2, they are not integer multiples of 24 such as 48, 72, 96, and 120(24x5 as apposed to 60x2). The 24fps film judder will still be present on 120 Hz sets performing non-integer 4:6 pull-down.

5x24=120 You can cover regular NTSC DVDs with 4 times the refresh rate plus 24P with 5 times the refresh rate with 120. What's bad about that?

this is sorta on the same topic I thought I'd ask, I have a 1080i TV that if I tell the PS3 to do 1080P it will and I can see the screen but I see mild distortion like small lines of static, or dots of static, nothing much but enough to be irritating, does anyone under why or how it does this, is it possible to maybe make it do 1080P without the distortions? sorry if I should have started a new topic.

If you have a 1080I TV that accepts 1080P and you think that the TV converting 1080P to 1080I is causing a issue, then try setting the PS3 to 1080I to see if the problem goes away.

Today Samsung confirmed with Twice magazine that the BDP-2400 is officially canceled (which is old news). The BD-UP5000 will have all the features of the BDP-2400 plus the added bonus of playing HD-DVD discs. Of course the BD-UP5000 is going to cost $400 more for the HD-DVD and PIP capability that the discontinued BDP-2400 lacked.

Quote
Samsung said the Duo HD player will be BD Profile 1.1 ready, meaning it will include the necessary hardware to play BD Profile 1.1 discs.
A firmware update will be available at the end of January 2008 to allow playback of BD Profile 1.1 discs.”

Quote
““Profile 1.1 discs are currently not available and compatibility must be fully tested before we can assure complete compliance to BD Profile 1.1 requirements,” Samsung said.”
Quote
“Samsung said the Duo HD player is now scheduled to ship from Samsung factories at the end of October and will be available to consumers at retail by mid to late December.”

Panasonic is going to ship in November 2007 its very first 1080P/24 BLU-RAY player. Also this will be the very first BLU-RAY player on the market that supports PIP. This player has been added to the list.

Quote
Other features the DMP-BD30 provides are 1080/24p playback, so the consumer can see the same 24 fps reproduction as the original movie. “This eliminates the need to utilize 3:2 pull down, a process to convert 24 fps images to 60 fps, resulting in a smoother picture,” Panasonic said.”

This new Panasonic will have a list price of $499 and it has the new HDMI 1.3B.

Quote
”The DMP-BD30 also features other advances in the format, including Deep Color Compatibility, and HDMI 1.3B, that bumps the step gradation from 8-bit 256 all the way up to 12-bit, 4,096 step gradation, Panasonic said.”

The Panasonic DMP-BD30 will ship Nov 5th and should be in retail locations nationwide within a week. Then again products and shipments can get delayed.

Quote
The DMP-BD30 will ship Nov. 5 and should be in stores nationwide within a week, according to Eisuke Tsuyuzaki, VP of corporate development for Panasonic and GM of its Blu-ray Disc Group. Tsuyuzaki expects stores to have the new player in time for the holiday season “by the bucketload.””

Do you have to have a special Sony 120hz Bravia with 24p capability to benefit from the 1080p/24fps playback support of the new Panasonic DMP-BD30? Or will you benefit with most 60HZ 1080P LCDs?

You will need to own a brand and model of display located on this list to benefit from 24 fps playback. 60HZ and most 120HZ displays accept the Sony brand do not handle 24fps correctly.

Here is a review on the new Panasonic DMP-BD30. This player originally was going to be announced for first quarter of 2008 but Panasonic was able to get the player ready for a November 5th shipment to retailers this year.

guess there is no need to upgrade my player then if I don't have a Sony that supports the 24p.

Yes there is no need to upgrade your player until the display is updated. 1080P/24 is a minor feature if you already own a 1080P/60 dispaly. Now if you watch a lot of audio commentary’s you might like PIP support. Also if you have a new surround sound receiver that supports BLU-RAY advanved sound formats then the new Panasonic will output all the advanced audio formats.
When people upgrade their BLU-RAY players they either place the old player in a second room in the house or sale it on EBAY.

Can we add a list for Receivers? - This information is hard to find.

For example Amazon claims the Yamaha RX-V3800 supports refresh rates of 120Hz and 24Hz, so I'd think it should also be able to do 72Hz.

I have also heard (on this forum) that the Pioneer VSX-94TXH passes 1080p/24 although I have not been able to find any documentation to back this.

I would like to see a list of receivers also. Currently I have not had the time to make a list of receivers. The list of players and displays keeps me busy. Not sure if I will every create a list for receivers. If someone else in the forum has the time to create a list for receivers then they are welcome to create a separate sticky link called “1080P/24 compatible receivers”.
