Default We Own the Night..Good Movie Could have been better.

WARNING -CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off, being a Deputy Sheriff - I am very critical of "COP" movies as they are often inaccurate and I wind up spending most the time pointing out officer safety issues. This movie offered an outstanding cast and a great performance by Joaquin Phoenix and a solid performance by Marc Walburgh. I've seen mixed reviews about his movie and came to the conclusion that the movie felt rushed from the middle on. The car chase?; a drugie turned cop over night?; the shootout at the end(?) was terrible and the officers were not only outgunned??? but basically without cover and fish in a barrel. One particular failed operative was to always cover all entrances and exits before moving. Walburgh on the Mega-Phone was absolutely ridiculous - as no one was in position...sorry for the rant but that is so Hollywood. They could have set this up for a sequel with no problem. For those that don't know this was a real problem in NY in the late '80, (I know I grew up around it), the Russians did grow in power and stature and basically took the place of an absent Italian Mob.

There wasn't anything to really hate or despise about this movie, but there also wasn't anything memorable about it. There wasn't anything that made me care about the characters, to want to see them succeed in the end. Your post warns over spoilers, so I'll just write away, at the ending of the movie, if Phoenix's character was killed (mainly because he was so stupid to chase him in the field), that would have been fine with me. I really didn't care.

Did anyone notice that Whalbergs character got shot in the face.... and never had a scar. I was especially annoyed by the fact that Jaq's character could go to a police party thing and have no one figure him out.

He had a scar...wasn't very good but it was there...No one had to figure him out at the police party and the Russians didn't know because he had a different last name that Wahlburg and the script had Walburgs crew bust him and his own night club...now he accidentally becomes prime candidate for informer.

Memorable..... Eva Mendez bare tits?

Yeah I too found it lacking in something. Such high expectations with the casting but its as almost they just ran out of ideas/money/dialog/directing etc.

You took umbrage with this movie as a badge carrier gun slinger while you use an avatar of one of the greatest TV cops (Vic Mackey) ever that was on a show that was pretty far from real life (for the most part).

Alrighty then......

..for the most part...it happens...
The script is also very intelligent if not for the drama people crave.

FYI...the Show was orignally going to be called Ramphardt after the notorious LAPD Division. From what I gather the writers read a lot of reports and follow up investigations that went toward the script...the name change came at the very end.

Being from So Cal, I am very familiar with the real news out of the Rampart division.

That division has a very shady real life history.

Being a friend of multiple law enforcement types from CHP to a local Orange County city I was raised in, I know shady real life badge carriers all over the place.

I could write a few scripts myself.

Be safe out there.

Movie was okay but not up to all the hype. It felt like it was missing that special something that could have made it great. Don't know what it is, but there was a void.

Dwight: I saw Wedding Crashers accidentally. I bought a ticket for Grizzly Man and went into the wrong theatre. After an hour, I figured I was in the wrong theatre, but I kept waiting. That's the thing about bear attacks, they come when you least expect it.

Actually,I think you are thinking of 30 days of night.

I am also very critical of cop movies as I am also a police officer. I agree with you, especially the bust at the end. I remember making a comment to my friend who was watching it with me that in real life, they would have blocked all the exits first, and Mark Walburgh probably wouldn't have used a megaphone. I'm surprised Joaquin Phoenix didn't die just for bein an idiot and chasing the guy blindly. But overall, pretty enteraining flick, especially the opening scene!
