This is my set up, and the red outlines are where I think the speakers should be when they are wall mounted.
![]() ![]() ![]() The room's dimensions are going to be in approximations: The length is 12' The width is 10.5' The heighth is 7.5' Obviously living in an apartment means tight spaces, but I would like opinions on the best possible placement of these speakers. Thanks! |

Use the following diagram as a guide. Also your seat is too close to the wall. Since your subwoofer is too close to the corner and your seat is too close to the rear wall, you are hearing too much room boom instead of good bass. Move the subwoofer a little bit away from the corner and see if you can move your seat away from the rear wall as much as possible. Make sure you calibrate your system properly.

The problem is, most living rooms were not designed to be theaters. I think 5.1 set up is going to be adequate for small rooms, or maximizing space with the lounge. It would probably look silly if you squeeze the couch to the middle of the room and be cramped with wasted space behind the couch just for speakers. If it MUST be 7.1 I would go with flush mounted rear wall speakers or something and push the couch out a little, but not too far, or just go with the plan as in the photos, it would probably work fine.

Agreed, your room is to small for 7.1. A proper 5.1 set up will sound better.

Thanks for the responses. A couple things though, I have seen that diagram, and that is why I posted here. My room is obviously to small for a proper 7.1 set up, but I would like to use those extra speakers. It doesn't seem to hurt the sound when I watch movies so far. The sub sounds surprisingly well, however I will move it away from the wall a little bit more to see if I can tell a difference with it.
Also my main concern is the height of the speakers once they are attached to the wall. I've read that a good rule of thumb is about ear level when you are standing. Also due to the small room size, the surround left/right speakers will probably end up a little bit in front of the listening position. Again, this is not a proper set up, but I would just like some experienced opinions on whether or not it would "ruin" the sound. Much appreciated guys. Thanks again. |
