Default Easiest in-store credit card to be approved for

I am trying to build my credit, I have none at all. I also want an hdtv, so I was thinking of getting an in-store credit card and using that to get it. Best Buy denied me. What stores will approve people with no credit history? I've been told RC Willey is good at that, but their hdtv's don't seem that good. Anyone know about like Amazon or anything like that?

Don't apply for a lot of cards at once. That will hurt you more than help. You might want to go to your bank or credit union and ask them about one of their Visa or Mastercards. Sometimes they have programs to help people starting out and will tie your credit limit to your savings account for a while. Otherwise ask them for a small loan and pay it back over time. That will help establish your credit.

Sears is pretty good at giving credit cards to people without great credit. I dont know if they still carry tv's, but i think they do.

Target, Sears, Dell (do they still have tv's?)

You might not get the limit you need, but it might put it in range for you to buy the rest of the tv outright.

not that those are particularly where I would get a tv, but if you really want one now and don't have time to build credit, you don't have much choice.

not CC, you would be better off going to your local bank and applying for credit through them, you would be more likely to get a card that way to establish credit

Easiest card to get and best way to build credit used to be with gas cards. I am not sure how many stations still have one now though. With any card, just use it occaionally and try not to ever carry a balance. I use my Best Buy Mastercard for EVERYTHING, and then pay it off at the end of each month. I did use it to buy my 52XBR4 too and earned a whole mess of reward points, even after making them price match CC then Frys.

Try Kohl's. They do almost anything to get customers to put it on a Kohl's charge card. If you got a name and SS#, and don't owe big $$$, your in. Sorry, they don't sell TVs except for a small one around Xmas time. You can get a digital photo frame though.

Best Buy has two different cards. They have an in store card only that I have. Can't remember if I started making car payments or not to have credit. But there Credit Card that you can use anywhere. Its really hard to get one. I've been making payments on a lot of stuff now for the past few years and I still can't get approved. I dd it a Circuit City Credit Card. Chase Bank. I used them at the time though with my car payments. Got a $3000 limit which got moved up to $4000 now.

I can tell you from professional experience (I work with credit card banks in their marketing efforts)
Because of the US credit crisis, you will have a hard time getting a credit card with limited to no credit history. You are what they call a "sub-prime" customer. The same type of customer that took mortgages with 5 year adjustable rates that ballooned to payments that they couldn't afford.
As a result of this poor lending, the banks are minimizing their risk and not issuing more credit to "At-risk" customers.

A major international bank I work with has nearly eliminated all marketing efforts in the US and they have done a LOT of sub-prime credit card lending.

There are still ways to get cards though...

Some places to try -
1 - as others have said, local credit union or bank (where you HOLD an account with history and a balance of over $1000 is you best bet)
2 - a card like Orchard Bank would be a good start
3 - a card like Providian would be a last resort - they tend to be secured

But don't apply too frequently, your non-existant score will suffer greatly.

Join a credit union that offers credit cards. Get one through them. Or if you have a specific purchase in mind that you are trying to finance, get a car/student/computer/signiture loan. Credit unions ussually will generally be more accessable and supportive of someone who is starting out in the financial world rather than trying to bend you over at every chance.

Another tip, the golden rule with credit cards, use it like cash. If you buy $50 in gas on your credit card and have $50 in cash in your pocket, don't think that you still have $50 cash in your pocket. Pay your balance on time and in full every month. Some people will tell you that you will have a higher credit score if you let them earn some money off of you. In the credit card industry people like me (who pay in full every month) are considered "deadbeats." Paying some interest to a credit card company might result in you getting more offers from that company, higher limits faster, and more offers for credit from other companies but you will save money and still have perfect credit when it matters, when you go for a mortgage or car loan, if you pay in full every month.

I'm sure if you don't have "Bad" credit already..... someone will give you a card with a low limit..... but to "build" credit, you'd be better off having school paid through your name with student loans, or a car-payment, etc. (if you have a car payment in your parent's name, ask them to transfer it to your name)

I built my credit through a secured BOA credit card with $1000 deposit that was returned after 1 year...

After that, I try to make as much purchase as I can on the CC and always pay in full on time. After 5 or 6 years, with just 1 card (and limit now to $10K), I have built an excellent rating with average score of 770 from 4 different credit rating services. Of course, never miss any payment in any bills. I have no other loans (well, until recently)

So, starting small does count and count big and it pays off when I purchased my first house this year.

Amen... I've had the same CC since 1996 and my credit rating is pristine..... of course I've gotten a couple of car loans, and paid them both off, and paid off student loans, so that all helps. We're STILL in the process of closing on a new home.... . many new pics and updates to occur when we take possession !!!!!
