Default About time a movie gets slapped with an "R" Rating

Been so long since there has been a movie with an "R" rating. The movie, The Happening actualy got one. Im shocked. Seems most movies now days get a PG 13!? Whats up with that!? Thats what happened with Chronicles of Riddick. Loved the film, actualy seen it in the theater, probably the last film I watched on the big screen. I was shocked at the PG 13 rating, I wanted it to be "R" but it was still good. Although I, like many other felt this hurt the film. Because of the lack of success, there may not (probably not) be a third Riddick film. A shame.

BTW, while I am rambling on about Riddick, they better bring the uncut directors version of the film to blu. I will for sure double dip on that one, as well as pitch black.

Anyway, The Happening got slapped with an "R" rating and all I can say is, its about time! I mean, C,mon Hollywood! Im sick of these PG13 films. Yeah, I know its done to bring in a wider audience for more money, but them PG13 movies get OLD.

Im I the only one missing those "R" rated films?

Virtually every horror movie released in America that is scary gets an R rating.

Although I suppose the same could be said for Australia. The R rating here is pretty much the equivalent of NC-17 over there. R rated movies are shown in cinemas, usually with some scenes cut out and restored for the DVD release. There aren't very much Aus. R rated horror movies being released nowadays, mostly just MA.

Sex and the City just came out last week. It was R.

Just kidding, I know what you're saying. Summer is just a PG-13 time of year. There are always a smattering of R's but those are mostly fall, spring and winter.

The question on that though is, are most of them horror movies even worth watching? The whole horror movie thing is another rant by it self

There's occasionally a really good R movie released here like Wrong Turn 2, and a decent one like Rob Zombie's Halloween or Hostel 2, although the best horror movies like The Descent, Planet Terror, The Amityville Horror, Freddy vs. Jason, The Ring, etc. are all MA rated.

In just movies in general, there don't seem to be all that many new R rated movies coming out, which I do agree sucks. MA seems to be the most common rating nowadays.

Funny Games was a recent R film that I thought was fantastic. Ditto that for Stop Loss.

I tend to like the PG-13 rated movies myself, being a parent. I do understand that sometimes it's important for a movie to have its language or violence from an artistic or authentic standpoint. However, sometimes it seems there is too much language and too much "graphic" violence.

So, I like being able to watch good movies without a lot of unnecessary language or violence. It's better for my kid too.

Just my opinion though and I'm not trying to hate on yours.

I understand fully where you come from. No hate taken Im not bashing PG13 films either, I got a ton of PG13 DVDs on my shelf Some are really good. I, Robot, ID4, Frequency to name a few. I agree that language can be over the top as well as violence

Woah, that's weird. All the Matrix movies here are rated M for medium level violence, while films like Sin City are rated MA for strong violence. Weird.

We have no 'M' or 'MA' in the states.

But I generally don't even notice the ratings. Who the heck rates these movies and what do they know about it anyway? Probably less than film critics know about film.

if it were up to me "the Lion King" would have been rated R for subliminal sex messages.

Most of these haven't been rated yet, but I'm guessing they'll be R. Some of them look really good.

I dont get it. I mean if you actually dont like the movies coming out then i understand. But if you like the movies just not the rating then im puzzled.

Throw in the Navy Seals and put the Eastern seaboard in Jeopardy with a Nuke or an evil comic book character, and we are talking "Titanic" kind of money.
