Default Onkyo 605 - Volume Level

Just wondering what volume level you guys use to listen to your Blu Rays on your TRX-605.

I've been using 70-73 for the past few months without incident but recently had someone complain about the noise level so I've had to put it down to 60-65. Don't feel that I get the true theater experience with that level though but it could be because I'm half deaf :P

I'm interested to hear what you guys have yours set to.

Usually about 45-50 for video games and 50-60 for movies depending on the title.

between 40 - 55 for games and movies.

Huh, so I guess the 605 and 705 use different methodologies to measure volume. The highest my 705 goes to is +8 and I usually listen to at around -20. Is it just that I haven't changed the settings or something? Damn, sometimes I feel so old and out of it

The 705 must do it in decibels (which is honestly more universal) while the 605 uses a number by default. There may be a way to change it but I haven't really tried.

My 605 was only a numerical jump ie; 0-80 (I think 80 is the highest), for tv I could listen to it around 15-25 (25 being loud), DVD and blu were around 35-40ish. And no, there is no way to change the scale.

Seems like mine is slightly louder than yours then

I'll just have to live with it.

In my 20' by 20' room w/ a 12' ceiling and listening position 9' from the screen I've shot full band pink noise at -20dBFS and got 83dB at the 71 position on my 605. That's where I leave it for most movies unless they are extremely loud (i.e. the LPCM track on 300). That's also done on 20 year old Fischer loudspeakers. Different monitors may sound louder or quieter depending on what brand you have and their power rating/frequency response.
