I have watched blu-ray movies on 1080P TVs and they all have black stripes top and bottom because(i think) the movie width is greater than 1600. So the image resolution is downscaled. (or perhaps the movie is recorded on the
DVD with the black stripes...) A 30 inch monitor should be wide enough (2560 pixels) to prevent this downscaling. Will any monitor allow me to watch blu-ray at something like 2560 * 1080 resolution. |

If I buy a Dell 30 inch monitor, from what I read of its spec, it will only display Blu-ray at 1920 by 1200 - consequently if I play a movie on it the video card will down scale to allow for the movie's width then the monitor will upscale to fill the monitor . This will give me an upscaled resolution of something like 1920 by 700. I'm trying to get a monitor that will allow 2560 by 1080 when playing blu-ray movies. Is there any monitor that will do this?

The HD resolution is 1920 by 1080 pixels (16:9 or 1.78:1). The format of widescreen cinema movies often is 2.35:1. If you want to display the entire width of these movies on a 16:9 widescreen TV, some of the lower and upper part of the screen isn't used. That are the black bars you saw.

I have a Dell 27" 1200 x 1920 monitor and you may display 1080 X 1920 simply by right clicking the desktop and changing the resolution to 1080 x 1920 . That way, the 1080 x 1920 input will be displayed as is. Of course, you will hav a thin black band above and below the 1080 lines.

I recommend just using a small 1080p TV as a monitor. Works great if you find the right model. Better bang for the buck versus a computer monitor. And it's amazing using say a 40 inch as a computer monitor. Effective work space is awesome.

I believe the Gateway 30" monitor (1600 x 2560) will play BDs at 1080 x 1920 1:1 and also can upscale with the HQV processor, and then you can watch 2.40 movies at a 1080 x 2560 size then.
You still will have black of course as the monitor's pixel height is 1600 |
