Default What if your T.V. is only 720p?

Blu-Ray dvds have 1080p video resolution, my T.V is 720p will it make a difference if i had a 1080p t.v?

Will i still get the same quality? BLU-RAY dvds are 1080p does it matter? Can some one explain this whole 1080p?

Exactly.....

Think about the old Rear-projection "Big-Screens" if you sit two feet away from it, it'll be blocky, and terrible looking...... the further you sit from it, it looks fine......

Same principle, but on a different scale. I have a 37" 720p and sit about 10 feet away, so I wouldn't be able to tell the difference even if I had a 1080p sitting right next to it.

You will not get the same quality as somebody with a 1080p set, but you should see a difference over DVD.

1080p is a HD screen with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels = approx. 2 million pixels

your screen is 1280x720 pixels = approx. 1 million pixels.

Blu-ray will play fine and look better than anything you have ever seen on your HDTV (720p). However, you will be missing out on approx. half the resolution versus somebody with a 1080p set.

You won't notice a difference at all...... (if you mean 32", not feet )

I'd sit even closer if possible (I sit too far away too!)

720p or 1080i will look great on a 32" TV set. At that size you will not be able to discern a difference between 720p or 1080p. It's not until you start looking at larger screens around 50" or above that it may become noticeable.

I'd ignore this advice. For your screen size, and viewing distance, you won't notice any difference, let-alone "night and day" as this guy seems to think.

I was just gonna ask this --- say you have a 56" inch 720P or 1080i with an eight or nine feet viewing distance. If you stepped up to 1080p given same specs, is the difference going to be as dramatic as it was going from 480i DVD to 1080i??

In other words will it be an epiphany like moment/experience where you realize every movie you have ever watched in your past was utter crap and now you know that you will have to watch each and every single one over again.

At 56" the difference will be VERY noticeable. I even notice quite a difference on my 40" 1080p compared to my old 40" 720p I used to have.

Very interesting. Well the good news is that over the last 6-9 months the prices on 1080p's have really gotten better. I anticipate them bottoming out as we close in on the holiday season at the end of the year. I am sure there will be tons of crazy offers/combos/rebates, etc. with all of the brick and mortar vs online competition these days. I think that is when the time will be right to make a move. Am really curious to see where plasma prices are a year from now as well.

If you like your 32" TV and planning on keeping it then I wouldn't worry one bit. At 10' you will not be able to tell. even if you sat closer to your 32" you still would not be able to tell. You would need a magnifying glass to notice a greater number of lines/pixels between 1080p and 720p.

If say you are going to upgrade to a much larger set than yes I would go 1080p. 720p at a distance is fine so I wouldn't worry.

Nice -- forgot to mention those as well. Great time to buy one for sure. Actually the flip side to consider of what I said above is if the price of something is good enough for you, you might just wanna grab it because with the economy being as bad as it has, consumer price spending down, inflation, oil prices, etc. we might for the first time in a long time be in a situation where the retailers are a little more conservative on the inventory buy side that they carry, so those crazy deals we got last year might not be as prevalent like they were last holiday season and prices have really really come done across the board on blu from last year.

What kind/size of screen are you gonna roll with??

Gonna go with a 720P http://www.amazon.com/Mitsubishi-HC1500-720p-Theater-Projector/dp/B000RL6XVM/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3760HV0VB9MOT&colid=Z Z8NVE9QTSPM

because I have a HUGE room, and will likely sit pretty far away.... and really I am not too concerned with picture quality, I'd rather spend the extra money on saving up for Mono-tubes, or more media, etc.

Plus $750 they're practically giving it away!!! I'll probably budget $4-$500 for a screen (so I can keep it and re-use it when I get a better projector someday.)
