Question Cewin Vega speakers Help ???

My father owns a Onkyo tx-sr705 ands has some older Cerwin Vega speakers her are the model numbers for his speakers it is a 5.1 setup

Fronts=RE-30 Towers
Center=HT-CTR Center Channel
Sourrounds=LS-8 Bookshelf Mounted
Sub=Klipsch Sub-10

SO I went to his house and set them up for him and I set the Fronts medium sized Backs Small Center medium. The Klipsch Sub is set to large and handles most of the bass little in the front and little in the back we find the setup to sund very good now he wants to add Two Klipsch Bipolar s-3 surrounds what do You think

i think its gonna throw off the sound a bit, being a horn tweeter, assuming you mean he wants to do this to make it 7.1? i mean, the surrounds it wont make as much difference as, say, mismatched towers, but I'm a firm believer in the idea of sticking to one brand for all of the speakers (the different brand sub is a non-issue) and if possible one model line, or atleast similar...

I have a pair of RE-30's in my basement that I connect to a DVD player (for CD playback) and a receiver, all through a power inverter, that I play in the Muni-lot before Browns' games, tailgating.....

That's about all they're good for.... I'd recommend he replace his front towers/center before spending another dime. The CV's can handle the task of being the surrounds for the time being, but replacing the fronts/center should be the priority.

I have the RE-16's for surrounds, the matching center, and the "Sub-150"

all sitting in my basement with an inch of dust on them ...... they really do sound TERRIBLE.... they're dorm-wall shakers at best.

I just want to start off by saying i not a fan of Cerwin Vega speakers,But that's my personal opinion ,They look big and powerful(look nice with red trim) but i never did like how these speakers preformed and i don't like paper woofers .I also believe in having all your speakers the same(sub you can look at other's)But sometimes you get lucky.I have old mirage front speakers and found older energy speakers go very well with them.Bought new Paradigm center ,back surrounds and sub.But i've been lucky to test many speakers in my theater room.You can mix and match but you gotta have a good ear and some patience(and also helps if you have spec's and some reviews in front of you as well) .If you have a couple higher end speakers your pretty much sticking to high end for the rest(slowly pushing low end speakers out the door).But it's easier to keep speakers all the same(it's a safe bet) i just have to much time on my hands(Praise the lord) This is my 2 cents good luck
