Default Local Target offers up Major BD Expansion

I was in one of the Super-Center Targets this morning and to my surprise, they have relocated their BD section away from the main DVD section. Not only that, but they have increased the BD section significantly. Each column has 5 spots and there appeared to be room for at least 150 different titles. The new section is facing the aisle containing the TV Boxsets.

Not surprisingly, there were alot of empty spots, but I'm sure stock is on its way. Too bad the pricing still mirrors Best Buy. However, it's nice to see such a huge expansion and it's only June.

This was done a few days ago as I was in there recently. I'm sure the other larger stores will follow.

I was at my local Target two days ago and noticed they did the same. In the past they had maybe 3-6 vertical rows mixed in with the DVDs, which were all along a back wall. Now they have increased their BD stock and have an entire row (similar in size to a row stocking music CDs) dedicated just to Blu-ray.

Also, it has a catchy make-up and has banners that explain the benefits of Blu-ray over DVD. Pretty cool.

Harley....which store did you notice an expansion? I shop at either 101 and Frank Lloyd Wright or the big one at Desert Ridge and have not been to either recently to check.

A lot of people still buy Blu-rays at Target. This is going to be helpful to let people see that Blu-ray isn't just a few movies. It's going to catch on even more quickly!

Havn't been to target but wal-mart around here recently more than quadrupled the number of blu-rays they carry.

Where i live in FL, Wal-Mart has relocated their BD section a few times, most recently in a glass case hidden in the video game dept. It's sad, can't really see the selection all that well. Still horrible prices.. I still have yet to see Target's new display. Last time i checked, they were still mixed with the DVD's, and had a few sale prices going on. Still expensive though.

At my store, I believe we just expanded to 12' if Blu-ray's. The new releases are still mixed in with the New Release DVD's, but everything else is in the Blu section.

If you are looking for good prices, you should stick to online. Sale prices are often better online then in a B&M store. You should still check for good sale prices or BOGO's though.

This is the important thing. We can whine all we want about Target's prices being higher than amazon's, this move by Target serves to increase public exposure, which is very good. The public needs to see the item first... THEN watch it's price begin to drop.

I stopped at Target on my way to work this morning and walked by the blu-ray section just as I always do. It was gone! They had it filled in with DVDs. It shocked me. Frantically, I looked around to see if they had moved them. I was shocked even more to see that they had given them an entire side of one aisle! They were all spread out and there were more empty spaces than there were movies. I am guessing they are planning on getting a bunch more BDs in stock.

My Target just expanded like crazy too. I hope this trend spreads across the country very soon.

Same happened here. I'm guessing it's a company-wide thing.

They're remodeling the store in my area and it looks really nice (so far -- very modern looking entrance, side-walk area, etc.). As far as the blu-rays, they still had the same amount of space. Counting the somewhat small blu-ray section, the blu-rays mixed in with the new DVD releases and the PS3 display that also has movies under it, they probably have around 50-60 titles.

Hopefully once the remodeling is done, they'll get around to expanding the section.

Oh, BTW, they've redone the console section and it looks really nice although the PS3 stuff is on the outside looking in. The inner square is lined with x360, Wii and PS2 games/hardware/etc. while the PS3 stuff lines the outside of the square. Makes it kind of in the line of sight from the blu-ray section though but that's probably just a coincidence. Anyway, hopefully the movie section is next.
