Default OFFICIAL: Sony prepping PSP-3000 with built-in mic

There may not have been any word of a new PSP out of E3 as some had suspected, but it looks Sony may have a bit of a late surprise for us, at least if these tantalizing pics from PSPChina are to be believed. Apparently, this new PSP-3000 model remains mostly unchanged from the current PSP-2000, with the notable addition of a built-in microphone and a somewhat less notable PlayStation button in place of the usual Home button. As you can see in the picture after the break, the signature steel ring on the back of the PSP also appears to have been trimmed a bit (there's a pic of the inside of the case as well, for the curious). Not exactly the DS Lite sort of upgrade that'd make everyone ditch their old PSPs to be sure but, as we've seen with the PSP-2000, it would be about par for the course for Sony.

UPDATE:

Quote:
We expect a lot when Sony makes a full point update from the PSP-2001. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case as we thumb through the FCC filing for Sony's newest PSP. Then again, it's being pretty tight-lipped with most of the juicy docs well hidden in support of Sony's request for confidentiality. We can tell you that the FCC's tests were all focused on the 2.4GHz spectrum for the PSP-3001's stated use of 802.11b WiFi (nothing new there) -- no GPS, no 802.11 Draft-n, no Bluetooth. In fact, the schematic used to demonstrate the FCC ID placement looks identical to the existing PSP slim -- no evidence of that rumored mic or redesigned Home button. Guess we'll have to wait for this one to walk through the system a bit. Nevertheless, fanboys rejoice, PSP-3001 is real and this close to a formal announcement. See the label placement pic after the break.

The only way I will upgrade again is if I get 802.11g instead of b...that annoys me...especially with remote play.

not going to happen. I am more than happy with my current slim PSP.

I had high hopes for the PSP, but the games that interest me just aren't there. I haven't played it in months.

So I'd rather see more PSN PS1 game support, more 3rd party software etc, before I care about a new model.

About ready to dump mine.

it could happen, hell they added 2 analogs plus vibration with the PS1 why not with the PSP, also unlike the PS1, the PSP is internet capable so you could update old games to work with new analog/rumble. They added rumble to the PS3 after release.

Whatever happened to the GPS thing-a-ma-bob?

As for the PSP, I just don't play small games like that anymore. I find I get very board, very quick. The games are quite good - but if I'm at home, I play my PS3. I don't have enough wi-fi spots around me to find remote play/Skype, etc. useful. It's a cool little machine - I'm just not that interested in these kind of games anymore.

I'll continue to keep it around just in case some "must have" feature is ever released on it.

And thats the one thing that rights ****s me off about SONY. They continue to ignore the rest of the world. I can guarantee Europe/Aussie/NZ will not see the light of day when it comes to a gps.

Go!Explore GPS is already out in Europe

Australia and New Zealand...I agree with you there, they'll probably ignore.

To substantiate their claims, one of the forum goers supplied a photo of the unit, which depicts a new button with the PS brand logo next to the two volume push buttons, in replace of the HOME button found on the PSP-1000 and 2000 series. To the right of the volume buttons is the microphone.

there was a thread early where sony mentioned something about getting on top of the piracy problem, this is it guys. when they intro'd the slim, it eliminated the easy way of cracking the psp. didn't last long, but it slowed it down for a bit. i expect the same sort of thing with this.

maybe a leipzig announcement?
