Default Problem with PS3 (COD4 online)

Need help, just yesterday I tried to get online with COD4 and right when you enter the room it just freezes up. I cant even turn off the PS3 without hitting the main switch. Anyone else experiencing the same problems? I have the latest firmware v2.41 and my PS3 is a 60gb at launch 06'. Thanks guys.

My PS3 40GB running the 2.41 upgrade has no problems playing COD4 Online. Any other games give you a hard time when trying to play Online?? I haven't heard anything like this before. Maybe you're connection to the network is bad. are you on wired or wireless?

My neighbor has a 40 gb ps3 and he has had the same thing happen a few times. I personally have a 80gb and have experienced this once or twice. Mine happened before the update though. I know neither of them are the 60 gb model but i just wanted to let you know it has happened to other models aswell.

as a matter of fact, my cousin's used to do this. it is either your connection or COD4 server issue

EDIT: most likely your connection, because i played yesterday and mine was fine

If it freezes and never unfreezes, it's most likely something wrong with your PS3 or game disc. If it freezes and then eventually unfreezes, that is most likely and network issue with a timeout involved.

It`s usually the GPU overheating if it`s freezing up, that or if you`re on wi-fi it's bad packets being sent over the network.

It may not be this, but try resetting the router (just turn it off for 2 seconds, then back on again), this is usually the fix for the dreaded "Downloading Game Settings" screen, but may work for this too.

Thanks guys for your inputs, my PS3 is hooked up via wireless (belkin54) router. Do you guys have any recommendations for a better PS3 compatible router?, thanks again.

I had it a few times. It is a network issue. I have a broadband connection too. I found out I was downloading and using most of my bandwith, but fixed it later. It also happens on XBox 360.

This is exactly what I do with the same situation, but I even hit the ps3's rear power switch as an extra measure. SOOOO freakin annoyin! but works every time I have that issue. I'm wireless also.

just finished playing, had a 4 hours gaming session online and had no problems with cod4 online! i would probably say it is to do with your network connection

i think the servers store the info and look at your physical ip address to get stats and what not. the name is stored on the ps3 hd itself. getting a diff provider shouldnt reset anything.

Your online name, statistics and everything else you've managed to build up will be the same, nothing is defined by which Internet Service Provider you have, so feel free to change ISP.

I would always avoid "just hitting the power switch", that's something you don't want to do if you can get away with it.

Turning the router off and back on again after 2-5 seconds does the job as your connection will usually scan and join an alternate (but just as good) set of pipes.
