Default I was set on getting on Sony 720/Yamaha 663, So I got the V1800 instead!!

1,300 reciever, but only paid 737.00, so I couldn't pass it up.. It was very easy to set up..took me 5 minutes to get HD audio.. Ofcourse I wasn't getting the full HD audio experience. I was using headphones, so was only two channel. I did test out Star Gate, RE Extinction, & troy. I preferred Star Gates DTS HD masters audio track over the others.. The difference compared to the lossy DD/DTS tracks.. Seems like a slight veil was lifted from the audio..Better clarity, better dynamics, micro detail is more audible, better imaging, & more transparent, & less harsh then the lossy codecs. Was I impressed? Yes. Was I blown away? No. Have I heard a reference BR audio track? No. Am I getting the full multi channel experience? No. There seems to be more questions then awnsers. But at least I noticed a improvement with my headphones. The 1800 bitstreams the HD codecs correct? & is fully 1.3 compliant? & how much are those polk speakers again? 200-300?

yes, the 1800 can accept a bitstream Lossless signal, but your PS3 cannot bitstream them. So you will only see PCM displayed. (ps3 must be set to Linear PCM to decode TrueHD and Dts-HD MA)

and yes, its hdmi v1.3 compliant.

Crackin', if I'm not mistaken - I told him in another thread the the PS3 will not bitstream . Good deal however on the RX-V1800!

Yes, excellent deal on the 1800. I have both the 1800 and the 663, and the 1800 is a much nicer unit, but not to belittle the 663 as it too is very nice.

DrasticPlastic, I was eyeing a similar deal on the 1800 this weekend, as I helped a friend purchase and install the 663. Have you had a chance to run a side-by-side comparison of the 1800 and 663? How would you best describe the difference in sound quality between the two units?

Given the deals available on the 1800, I might step it up if the difference in sound quality justifies it.

Thanks
