I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but if not then I'll move my post to the right area. I was running folding@home this morning and what happened is that the protein was ready to be transfered back to standfor university. The first time that the upload occured, the transfer failed. I quit the folding program, turned my ps3 off and then did some other things. A while later, I turned my ps3 back on and started folding program back up. A strange thing happened. There is no protein to send back. All the other information is present, but no misfolded protein appears. The program attempts to send the protein back and keeps failing and retrying and keeps failing. I was wondering if for some reason, my protein got corrupted some how and the program is sending data that isn't there. I wonder if I should just uninstall and then reinstall folding@home? To prevent this from happening in the future, when should you quit folding@home? In the past, sometimes data wouldn't go through the first time, but then would go on round 2. If data is being transfered back, at that point, should you just leave folding@home running or can you quit folding? I have 56 units done so far. If I uninstall and then reinstall, that number would go back to 0, I think. What should I do?

You wont lose your cumulative WU number if you uninstall/install F@H. They don't track your overall numbers by specific systems doing the calculations. DezNutz (another member of these forums) has completed over 1500 WU on the F@H client, which is impossible to do (to date) on the PS3 unless you run nothing but F@H 24/7/365, and do NOTHING else (which I know he doesn't). He runs the F@H client on 2 PS3s under his username (one at his home and one at his brothers) and neither system runs F@H exclusively or all the time, and I believe he also runs F@H on his PC, again under his username. Under our team statistics page, the F@H client doesn't track each system individually, nor does it list what systems he is running the client on. It just tells us how many WU he has done total to date, and lets me know that unless I buy 3 more PS3s to do nothing but fold I will never catch up to him (bastard....
![]() In short, if you delete the client from your PS3 and re-install, as long as you re-enter your F@H client username exactly the same as before, your work unit tally will continue to accumulate. The exception here is if you change or join a new "team". Then the client will track the numbers you completed seperately, according to whether it was independantly or on a specific team. For example, I have 963 WU as of this post as a member of the "NUTZ" folding@home team, and 1 WU that I completed as an independant before joining the team. So when i check the team stats, it shows I have 963 WU. If I check my personal stats it lists 963 WU as a member of the NUTZ team, and 1 WU as an unaffiliated folder. |

You should be able quit the client and upload the data later without any problems with version 1.3. But you know how it is with computers, stuff happens. I suggest trying to upload again tomorrow in case the problem is with Stanford servers.
If the problem persists then yeah you could just reinstall the client you would lose the WU count on the PS3 but the master server will still have it. http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Stats But don't forget the real reason behind folding which is scientific medical research, WU counting and points don't really matter. |

I'll try it again tomorrow morning and if I don't have any luck then I'll just uninstall and then reinstall. The process doesn't take that long. If data is ready to be transfered back to Standford, it is a good idea to quit foldling at that time? or does it really matter?
I tried again this morning and everything is fine so I guess the problem was on Standford's end. Last edited by Gamekid; 07-19-2008 at 05:37 PM. Reason: Added new information |
