Panasonic DMP-BD50 will soon cost around $515 from some mail order companies - Blu-ray Forum

According to a reliable source of mine the Panasonic DMP-BD50 that can be purchased at retail stores for $699.99 will be priced around $515 at some discount Internet mail order companies once large quantities of the players become available. Perhaps in August or September large quantities will be made available. I am hearing that toward the end of July more retail stores will have these new DMP-BD50 players in stock.

The advantage of purchasing from a retail store at the $699.99 price is one does not need to wait a few months for the internet mail order company to get the player in stock. Also retail stores have 30 day return policies if the customer does not like the player where as some mail order companies have restocking fees and shorter windows to return products.

Around $440 from some discount mail order companies in a few months.

The pricing database I have access to is a reliable source and it is showing that these players will be sold for around $515 from discount mail order companies. The around $515 price point will most likely occur in 2 or 3 months from various online dealers. For some consumers 2 or 3 months is too long to wait and they would prefer purchasing the player at a retail store.

Abt got their first Shipment of BD-50s (60 units) yesterday, and sent them all out today to cover pre-orders. They have 200 more coming. Price is $679, but they will meet the visual apex $599 price. Free shipping, no sales tax (except IL)
They are also taking pre-orders for the Sony BD-S350 which are expected "any day now".
