Can a Floor Speaker be used as a Center speaker?

Is there any reason I shouldn't use Floorstanding speaker as a center channel?

For instance, three Yamaha NS-777s instead of two NS-777s + a NS-C444? They would all three be located below the screen anyway. Does the horizontal orientation of the center speaker matter that much? It seems like you could get better sound with three floor speakers. Obviously I am still learning, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
