Interesting the payoff was associated with Kung Fu Panda:

Quote:
The movie "Kung Fu Panda" contributed $46.4 million in revenue to the quarter, but about $20 million of that was from completion of the company's strategic relationship with Toshiba, reported Analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan.

"Pachter said the stock nearly reached his target price of $33 and he believes it will remain in a range from $31 to $36 until investors have a greater visibility into where future profit will come from."

If this isn't the most obvious hint to jump on blu-ray to get new revenue streams then they are totally out of touch.

I also found interesting that they apparently sold the revenue rights to Bee Movie....oh well I guess they jumped off that boat (after releasing on blu-ray of course, LOL)

I won't believe it until I see it from a credible source. NY Times? Forbes? They are nobodies.

Are you being serious? Two of the most reputable print news sources in the country are not "credible sources"? Who would satisfy you?

He's making a joke. Think back to the comments from the HD DVD crowd when the paramount payoffs were written about in the NYT.

And to think that a few weeks ago some were saying how good an idea it is to accept payoffs, because all anyone cares for is the bottom line (how big of a profit there is)

I'd like to believe their catalog would have made more $$ had they released on Blu. I know I would have DD'd on Shrek, Shrek 2, and Over The Hedge. Given the past stance on Blu and K's belief that optical is a dead medium and HD (on any hand-offable medium) is a failure, I've passed on DVD releases from Dreamworks since mid '07 to help prove the opposite. I did enjoy that the article speculated that analysts saw through the profit numbers.

I laughed hard when they made the deal with Toshiba. I'm laughing harder now that it is coming back to bite them in the @$$.

No wonder Spielberg hates his contract with DW.

Yea add to those Shrek 3, Madagascar, Saving Private Ryan and Gladiator and they would have sold a ton of titles. All of those would have been double dips that I would have gladly done.

It did look good to DWA. They grabbed $23M in one quarter for doing nothing.

Ironic that Toshiba essentially helped promote what turns out to be a Blu-ray exclusive!
