What do you consider to be the best commentary on any dvd you have seen?

The Godfather - Coppola never stops talking, and that's a good thing if you're a student filmmaker or just want to feel like you've got Coppola in your home. He goes into detail about everything you'd want to know about the movie.
Gremlins - seriously! It has 2 commentary tracks, 1 with the filmmakers and the other with the cast including Howie Mandell. Both are incredibly entertaining and funny, but I was surprised at how interesting Zach Galligan was and how much he remembers about making the movie. Clerks: The Animated Series - Kevin Smith's commentary is more entertaining than the actual show! Citizen Kane - if you're a fan of the movie, or interested in serious analysis of movies, Roger Ebert's commentary is incredibly insightful. |

I always find Comedies have the best commentaries for pure entertainment. I enjoy all of the Kevin Smith commentaries. Mallrats is my favorite I think. I also like the Apatow Movie commentaries, Superbad has a terific one that basically never talks about the movie.

Normally, I'd go with the classy choices and say "Walt Disney thawed out for scene-specific commentary on 'Fantasia'" (and artificially simulated for "Bambi")--
But I'm going to go with my cult-movie urges and throw in Tim Conway on "The Private Eyes"... ![]() |

He closes it out by saying something along the lines of that he got sidetracked by Star Wars at the expense of a more interesting style of filmmaking, which is more where his heart lies. |

I enjoy all the Kevin Smith commentaries.
Ditto andything Robert Rodriguez has done. Se7en and Fight Club are good. Quentin Tarantino on True Romance talking about writing. Dazed And confused is probably the one I've listened to most, after the Kevin Smith ones which are just damn entertaining and plentiful. there are MANY more, I'm gonna look for a post I wrote about them about a week ago on this board and edit it in here. |
