Default Need suggestions for speakers (I'm a noob =[)

First off, I don't know much about entertainment systems or speakers but I've been putting together a list to build one. My TV is going to be a Samsung 26" 720p, and my blu ray player will be a Sony S350. All I have left to buy are speakers. Now, this setup will be going in my room, and my room has no placement space for something like 5 or 6 speakers. So what I'm looking for are just 2 speakers, that transmit HD audio, that I can place on the sides of my tv. I only post this asking because I'm not sure if something like this exist, 2 speakers that can transmit HD audio. Also, I don't know if I'd need a receiver if I'm only getting 2 speakers. Please help if you can.

Thanks in advance

if you get a Sony BDP-S350 it can only bitstream Dts-HD Master audio, so you would need an HDMI v1.3 Receiver.

Ok thanks, I thought I'd be missing something. What do you think about speakers? If I only got 2 speakers, would just need to be 2 channels right?

If anything I would recommend at least 3, the front left and right, and the center channel, which would be important for dialogue to sound natural. Whether you wanted to get a subwoofer for some bass, that's a different story. What's your budget??

3 sounds better, I could make room for a bass. Budget is no more than $500 total for both the receiver and speakers.

$500, eh? Hmm - gotta think about this one a bit, since I would hate to recommend some crappy home-theater-in-a-box. And of course, you do want the HD audio, correct? With a Sony 350, it might be hard to achieve, as you would need a receiver that could accept the bitstreamed signal, which would be at least an Onkyo 605 - $300. Leaving $200 for 3 speakers...actually, this is doable!

::goes off to look a bit::

I do yeah, but I need to crunch it into three speakers. I'm thinkin maybe I should just get the speakers now and receiver down the road if it's that expensive.

Jeez, I'm going to have go with this other guy's (ha, DriverKing, if he reads this) recommendation:

http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Cha...9363193&sr=1-2

for speakers

and

http://www.accessories4less.com/make...ipping-/1.html

as your receiver.

Hmm, that receiver was $270 one week ago, wonder why it went up!

But that's only $550, and you can't go wrong with it. Those speakers come highly recommended as a low-budget setup! And you would get HD sound out of them. Wiring and all that might run you another $50, though. But the $600 would be well, well spent!

perhaps get a PS3 and:

Logitech Z-5500

The PS3 will decode everything Lossless and send it as 2 channel over Optical. Plus the speakers are small for a room.

I also like this idea...

I think Crackinhedz has the right idea on this one. With your budget, unfortunately, you can't be too picky. You will only get 2 channel audio out of the optical cable, technically not HD audio, but with only 2/3 speakers anyhow it won't really matter. The biggest difference in HD audio is mostly positional accuracy in 5.1 or better setups along with some volume improvements. The setup that you are describing has no real need for HD audio.

Absolutely the best budget speakers out there, and you can currently buy 2 pair for under $200
