Default NBC Olympic Opening Ceremonies

NBC has released a DVD set with the opening ceremonies from the Bejing Olympics. Does anyone know if there are plans to release it on Blu-Ray too? I watched them in HD, and they were spectacular!

I was on vacation at the time but DVR'd it (in HD) and only finished watching it last night. I really enjoyed it as well, over-the-top and oftentimes kitschy as it was. (True eye candy if I ever saw it.) The opening drumming sequence was the best. Would make an incredible Blu-ray if NBC ever decides to release it.

id buy it.

im not sure how much tv stations realize that this stuff has demand in the BD market.

Youre best bet is to e-mail, call or write NBC/Universal and ask or request it be put on BD.

I dont know if your just joking or not, but.......

Im surprised people even made a fuss about the 26, count um again, 26, digital fire works. Lets get real honestly. The only fireworks that were fake were the foot steps outside the stadium (the last couple were real) and everyone throws a fit like the entire firework display was faked. Not only did they tell you that they were digital while you were watching them, but once they told you they were it made perfect sense.

Yes they would look good on blu, lots of color. Slightly different topic, but i saw a show on PBS HD about the Rio Carnival...WOW! .... It looked amazing. Id get something like that on blu as well.

All I could see is maybe a best of DVD release. I don't see the need for it to be released on Blu-Ray.

Only the foot steps were fake fireworks, and they even SAID so during the TV broadcast. The media blew the CG use out of proportion.

Because some things you can actually watch over and over again. Some things will suffice the first time.

Don't forget the "cute" Chinese girl lip-synching the "not so cute" Chinese girl's singing of the national anthem.

Here is the DVD link:

http://www.nbcdvd.com/

I for one would love to have this on Blu-Ray, CGI or not. The NBC HD feeds look a lot better than DVD could ever look and I really hope they will go Blu on this.

Or the underage girls on their team!

IMHO, the girl that actually sang the song was not the least bit ugly. That's pretty harsh of them, me thinks.

THANK YOU! I've been waiting for someone else to say this because it's the only defense of something that doesn't even need to be defended.

taking anything away from that performance for the fireworks is insane. they weren't even the most impressive thing... in fact no even almost.

I'd buy the blu of this day 1. I'd even import it.

YesAsia also a standard DVD edition up for order - unlike the US release, it's just one disc and is 20 bucks with shipping. Of course I find this out, after ordering it and seeing it mentioned here at blu-ray.com - curses! (teaches me - oh well)

While I don't have a problem with the "digital" addins, I think they didn't really make it clear on the broadcast that it wasn't completely non-digitally added.

They made a reference to it being "cinematic" and that it was "quite literally cinematic" but who's gonna get what that means? They coulda been a bit more clear with what they were referring to.

That being said, not a big deal to me. The whole thing was pretty spectacular, especially the guy running along the wall to light the torch.

All of the CG-depicted footstep fireworks actually took place live, but they were too dangerous to film via helicopter to capture effectively.
