Thats the third accident on that part of the track. Sounds like they made the track over the top dangerous...

At this point could anything be done to slow the course a bit? I watch luge, but never really got into it. Regardless, I feel bad for the guys family.

Alot of lugers have complained that its too fast and sloped.

That's just awful. Luge is a pretty dangerous sport to begin with. I'm with Rob71, wondering if they're able to change the track at all. Even just adding padding on the outside of the turns would help (might not look good, but hey, it's safer).

It show him going over the railing pretty much from an angled shot. Why wouldnt they have some sort of safety fallback that close to a corner makes no sense

It goes without being said that this is obviously very tragic and heartbreaking on the day of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. My prayers go out to the family and friends of Nodar Kumaritashvili, may he eternally rest in peace.

They did an investigation of the track yesterday and came to te conclusion though the track is more complicated and faster then others, it was a mistake made by Nodar Kumaritashvili. They have made some changes to the track in hopes of preventing any more of these cases.

Very sad news. RIP.

In a sport determined by milliseconds, I am not sure how anyone can say that the track is okay since a driver error caused his own death.
