Talking Valve change its mind on the Ps3

I love it
Quote:

Valve doesn't do PS3. The company's co-founder Gabe Newell isn't a fan, and hasn't been afraid to say so. But Valve's Doug Lombardi has told CVG today that PS3 support could be on the cards as the platforms recent success has raised some eyebrows.

"We're always evaluating what's happening in the marketplace and certainly something that's happening in the last couple of months is that Sony's managed to sell some boxes," said Lombardi.

"So whether or not you like developing for that platform, if they've got millions of people connected to that platform and buying their games you have to take it seriously."

He went on: "They're in the race now, so we've got to re-evaluate that for what it is."

PC is still its primary format, reaffirmed Lombardi, explaining that hardware similarities makes 360 its second choice.

But what are the chances of Valve opening its arms to PS3 and showing it some Left 4 Dead love? "50-50 right now," said Lombardi.

"There's zero chance of it happening this year. It's something that's being talked about right now as the game is gaining popularity and looking like it's going to be a hit."

A 50 percent chance one of the most highly respected PC developers will work on PS3? We'll take those odds.

I saw valve and I got excited. I thought I was going to be able to talk safety relief valves - pressure reducing valves - control valves - solenoid valves. Guess not.

Personalities aside... Proves yet again that it's just a business like any other and if the numbers make sense, they'll go forward. No company wants to do R&D to be put in the red. Their 'system' of developing the games might be not as sophisticated as other developers or maybe they didn't want to spend the cash for the 'kit' to adapt to the PS3 platform. Now that they're richer, they might be looking at expanding their interests.

Valve: ALL TF2 updates coming to 360, PS3 ignored

Kotaku:

"Owners of the Xbox 360 version of Team Fortress 2 will be scarfing down sandviches and delivering payloads later this year, as Valve is finally bringing all the updates delivered via Steam to the Xbox Live Marketplace. That means new, class-specific Achievements, new unlockable weapons for the Pyro, Medic and Heavy, new gameplay modes and new maps, all on your Xbox 360."

No, not really. Valve did the PC and XBox360 versions, but they farmed the PS3 port out to EA UK. It worked about as well as many other EA PS3 ports; awful.

I used to have about a dozen 1" and 1.5" butterfly valves in ... yes, 316 stainless. How's that for excitement?

The main question was 'Did Valve create Team fortress 2?' and I replied with a 'They they did the whole Orange box'. Console talk was not involved in our convo.

@ dereksworl: That's SO stupid. Valve needs to be shot for that.

@ cvm: The orange box IS on PS3. It's just a shitter version

On PC and 360 only, EA (Europe) developed the PS3 version of the orange box

It is on PS3 and for cheap might I add, the PC version is the best followed by the 360, then the PS3 (the PS3 version was NOT developed by Valve, but by EA Europe)

Let me correct myself, i know it is on the PS3, but i choose to get it for the PC originally. I would love to have a good version created for the PS3, since i really enjoy the Half Life Series and i love TF2! The console version just does not live up to it's potential.

Yeah, valve didnt port the ps3 version, which is probably why it turned out to not be as good.

Actually, I think it would have been worse if Valve did the port, since they act like they don't know what they're doing on the PS3.
