Default Ending format neutrality

So day after day, I sit here at work and peruse the various sites, threads, news and release information for both formats. It's a part of my job in that I need to keep track of these things and general industry trends. The more I do it though, the more I start to question some of what I'm doing. I am technically format neutral. I bought into HD DVD at its launch for review purposes (so poo on those reviewers who were waiting for comp players) and I bought the Samsung at launch.

I have an obvious preference. I've made no bones about that. But every evening as I sit in my media room to watch a show or some disc, that Toshiba HD-A1 is sitting there staring at me.

It hasn't been powered on, on purpose, since August 2006.

Why am I keeping it around. The off chance that Bandai Visual may actually put out a disc in Japan some time this year? Heck, I can't even bring myself to rent from Netflix for a Universal HD DVD.

So I figure I should just do what I did when the writing was on the wall for laserdisc. Time to put my neutrality out to pasture and find a home for the HD-A1. Any suggestions on the best way to make a few bucks off of it without having to deal with shipping? I figure if worse comes to worse and something does come out that I need to review, it'll be cheaper to score a 360 Strap-On unit and go through that.

Ebay is the obvious solution here, bundle it with whatever hd-dvd discs you have - and you can specify local pick up only -- or the Amazon marketplace (though that goes against what you said about shipping). Or donation to some charity will usually let you write off the full msrp for next years taxes.

Or the local shooting range might give you a few bucks if they're running low on clay pigeons

The easiest way to get rid of anything without having to worry about shipping is Craig's List. I sell stuff that is just too heavy to ship with that. Otherwise, Ebay is your friend, and just make sure you charge enough for shipping to cover expenses.

Whatever you do, do it fast! The more news that BD is winning, the less chance someone will want that piece and suddenly it'll be a paperweight. Dump it quick!

Why aren't you using it?

I notice on AVS there are those who now have a clear fear of the HD DVD experience. They sit back and enjoy BD on a Sammy or a PS/3 and then can't get themselves to use their A1 out of fear of the dreaded skips and freezes.

Even when a technically superior Warner release is presented to them, they will choose the BD release nowdays.

Of course, they are then called a troll for posting their feelings.

I dread the boot up for one thing.

The other is that i'm so awash in content on the Blu side that there isn't any incentive to rush. I'm usually a year or two behind on movies as is (my library is at 4500 dvds... i'm sure i have plenty unwatched) so there isn't a rush for it.

h wait, there is a "good news" about anime on HD DVD. This article is about Memory-Tech's HD DVD authoring approach using VC-1 for Bandai anime contents.

Here is a picture of their equipments... (messy )

Hmm? What are the 2 decks sitting at right hand side?

Bandai releases BDs in Japan, but not in the USA (yet)

Panasonic Blu-ray recorder and some Blu-ray device from Sony.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe Bandai will also release on Blu-ray after all.

Now I don't have to worry on Ghost In the Shell TV series and Movies being watered-down with HD-DUD exclusivity.

What a relief
