Default Disney neutrality unlikey

I keep on seeing all of these stupid posters over at AVS and seen as I have deleted my account there I would like someone to relay this info to the HD DVD fanbois such as MidnightWatcher and rdjam.

Now I will expand on why I think Disney will stay BD exclusive for the life of the format, they wouldn't want to piss off their single biggest shareholder and most influential board member - Steve Jobs.

BOth Fox and Disney have announced they will not be supporting HD-DVD and they apparently have a few suprises to be announced at the CES. Just becayse you say something often enough on a forum doesn't mean it's going to happen. A few forums seem to be fact free, FUD only Zones.

The usual suspects have been claiming a neutral shift from Disney since last June.

But, look at it from their point of view. If they don't maintain the faith in an imminent shift, how could they continue to hold out hope of HD DVD winning? How could they recruit more followers to their cause?

The coming of neutrality is a key tenent of the HD DVD "religion".

Except for the ultimate zealots, the true HD fans of HD DVD are going neutral in droves and acting all smug about it.

If either Disney or fox were releasing all bd-25's and keeping things at that level, I'd give it more credence. Not much, but a little. But with Disney saying they want to use bd-50 for everything and fox ramping up more stuff, it means that they'd have to do completely separate encodes and not do what warner does.

Which is for the best. I want them to optimize for BD since the spec allows for higher. It's up to the studios to use it.

I cannot wait for CES 07 to show up. HD-DVD is going to make their announcement with the # of players sold and how well they are doing. They will announce a bunch of titles from warner, paramount and universal.

Then the BDA will make their announcement with the number of blu-ray players sold passed the 1 million mark, the same titles from warner and paramount, except the BD versions will all include lossless audio on the warner titles making them superior. Then of course, the slew and onslaught of titles announced from disney, fox, sony, mgm, lionsgate, etc etc. It will be devistating. They will also be showing player from no less then 7 companys, and every display out there will be running BLU.

I think this is the last week for those hd-dvd fanatics to really try and drum up supporters, cause after CES, even the most hardcore of hd-dvd fans will have no choice but to buy into blu-ray. If you're a fan of HD, there is no choice. Sucks for them =)

Please, please Blu-Ray/Sony/Disney, announce Spiderman 1 & 2 and Pirates 1 & 2 (overhyping that they are exclusive to BR of course) and let that be the death knell for HD-DVD.

Given both would be excellent promotion releases for the third part of their respective trilogies, it would be tragic and stupid if they didn't announce those.

Good point. While they show a intent to optimize for BD, there is little chance they will go to the significant expense of going neutral.

The reality is, according to paidgeek, Sony authoring services can do an MPEG-2 title for SPE or Paramount in about two days. Compare that to the 100-200 hours a non-Statmux VC-1 title takes. So far, Amir has refused to answer the question of how much Statmux would add to the workflow.

No doubt the compressionists (like CJ and Ben) will ooo and ah about VC-1, but if they had to pay the encoding bills and were charged with maximum title production at the lowest cost, they may realize why CHOICE and PRODUCTIVITY is a good thing.

Microsoft: It's all about giving people choices. As long as they want VC-1 video, DD audio, and component output.
