Default question about my receiver

I have an yamaha htr-6090 & in the manual it doesn't say anything about dolby true hd or dts hd but the display says it does. So can this be upgraded or is it on there for no reason.

It probably just uses the same faceplate as some other Yamaha recievers like the VR663 or whatever. It would be a way for them to save some money, but I'm pretty sure that your reciever will still not decode TrueHD or DTS-MA.
