Default FPS issues with the PS3

Hello guys, I was wondering if anyone could tell me of PS3 games with good Framing per second that are out there ?
I don't have too many games so my experience is limited but I find it odd that Oblivion GOTY has so few Frames per second and when moving around in the game the motion feels jerky and juddery. I mean compared to games I have seen on the 360 which were super smooth as in way beyond 24 FPS

I also have Ratchet and Clank Tools of destruction and while the FPS is better (maybe some 20 FPS) it's still not the super smooth fluid thing a powerful machine like the PS3 must be capable of outputting.
Racedriver GRID is good but not exceptional in the FPS department.

So any games out there that are actually 30 or more FPS ?

Ninja Gaiden: Sigma for the PS3 is pretty smooth. I believe its 60 fps if I'm not mistaken.

Are you absolutely sure ? if you are then I feel reassured, the issue is not that the PS3 cannot handle lots of FPS, so the issue must be something else

1. Why would you compare the framerate between different games.
2. Oblivion has a smoother framerate on PS3.
3. It totally depends on the game.
4. Tools of Destruction runs between 30-60fps. Mostly around 60. The only time it may drop below 30 temporarily is if you release a tornado and it breaks open a TON of boxes releasing all the bolts at the same time.

Burnout Paradise, Ridge Racer 7, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction / Quest for Booty, GT Concept / 5 Prologue, Soul Calibur IV, Devil May Cry 4, Super Stardust HD, too many downloadable games to list run at 60fps. Too many to list run at a smooth 30.

If you want ultra smooth FPS , look for wipeout HD. I know it's not out yet but it should be noted that 1080p + 60fps is quite an accomplishment.

Call of duty 4 is not laggy and didn't notice any FPS drops. Likewise for Unreal tournament 3 ( server could be laggy) MGS4 is incredibly smooth. FPS drops happened a lot in the first year of the PS3 with all the bad ports , most of the games out now are on par with the 360. burnout paradise, ratchet / clank ( don't notice drops like you mentioned)

Sorry but I must disagree with You, Oblivion has AT BEST 15 FPS I have the game so I can see it every time I play. As for Ratchet and Clank the FPS is better but pan around and you'll see a slightly noticeable judder which means that there must be less than 24 FPS as 24 is the key figure for the human eye to not really see a difference between two Frames

Edit: If you mean for Oblivion it has a smoother FPS than on other platforms, that is possible as I did not see it on other platforms

Edit: Silversnake I did not say R&C have drops, I meant during the high of the FPS it is not super smooth though better than Oblivion

I didn't say the framerate didn't drop in Oblivion. You were accusing framerate dips of being a problem inherent to the PS3 but the framerate is overall better in the PS3 version of that game. It's an open-world game with huge draw distance, you expect to see framerate dips.

A mostly 60fps game doesn't have to dip below 24fps for there to be a noticeable dip. You get used to seeing silky smooth 60 and a temporary drop to 40, 30 is quite noticeable but hardly affects your feeling of control.

Funny because even the normally 360-happy American media suggested that the PS3 had noticeably better FPS handling than the 360.

Listen maybe the games I have seen in the 360 demo in stores are the very rare super smooth game or something I don't know. All I know is I have not yet personally seen a super smooth game on the PS3. I have been thinking that this could be due to ports whose codes were not meant for the Cell architecture and cannot totally be fine tuned for their release on PS3. If 2009 games have this FPS issue fixed then I'll be very happy

all of the games that i mentioned and Shin-Ra mentioned are super smooth. If you only tried the demo's at the store that could be an indication as it's just a demo. FPS problems should no longer be a problem as developers know how the PS3 works.

Some companies actually develop for the PS3 first which in turns make the 360 version better than it would have been had been it been developed for the 360 first.(burnout paradise as an example)

This thread is ridiculous
Besides obvious porting issues, the ps3 handles games a lot better than the 360. If you're looking at orange box and such you will see problems, but I'm kinda lost on why this thread exists. I don't have frame rate issues on my ps3. On my 360 it's worse.
/ redring of doom.

Maybe you just have the games that don't have the FPS issue, maybe you are speaking in bad faith, or maybe you have a bad eyesight in which case this is not an issue for you

Just cause You don't have a certain issue does not mean it is forbidden to talk about that one topic in a thread

I agree.

Are you running your PS3 hot? Do the cooling fans inside kick in to high gear? That may be a big factor.

Have you been good to your PS3, or have you knocked some bits or even bytes loose?

Nope My PS3 is very well treated, whenever it's more than 24°C I simply don't play to not strain or overheat it.

Anyway thanks to everybody for your insight. The only way to understand an issue is to talk about it. I'm sure the future games I'll acquire will have a better FPS

COD4 runs very smoothly, so does MGS4, uncharted, assasins creed, resistance, madden 09, etc.
