Default HD TVs 60 fps and 120 fps? Help!

i am stupid when it comes to this stuff, but i just got a LG tv,, its 60 fps, there is another style thats 120 fps, which is 300 bucks more.. is it worth getting the one thats more expensive? or stay with the 60 fps.

when i watch some programs when things move really fast etc, i see a lil pixel action going on for about a second then goes back to normal. Now the 120 fps tv,, you wont get that? or not nessesaraly?

If you're talking about TV programs, that's just a lack of bits

If it's on Blu, then it sounds like cheap motion estimation soft/hardware in the LG set.

The extra 60hz is not going to help you with that

Blur-ray content is stored at 24fps so to convert that to 60fps you have to do some frame multiplication and it doesn't come out even so they do a trick called a 3:2 pulldown which means one frame is repeated three times and the next frame is repeated twice. Now to get to 120fps each frame is repeated 5 times which, in general, means less visual distortion. Is your player capable of sending in 1080/24p? Is the 120Hz display capable of receiving 1080/24p?

Post some model numbers, please.

Just be careful, some tv's advertise 120fps but its not truly 120. I know the Sharp D92 LCD advertises 120, but it is a fabrication of the specs. It is supposed to get rid of the judder seen on media recorded in 24fps, but I find the difference minimal at best. The pixelation you are seeing is probably related to refresh rate, which can be very poor on some LCD TVs. I would suggest reading the owners thread of your tv on AVS forum, I always do that when buying a new piece of electronics. Professional reviews are very helpful, but its the owners that expose everyday annoyances and hidden problems. I have had some bad luck with tvs, I returned a LC-52D92U Sharp LCD, and a TH-50PZ750U Panasonic Plasma before settling on my 65" Panny plasma. One thing is for sure, there is no such thing as a perfect tv... LCD, Plasma, RPTV and DLP all have their own problems it just depends what is most important to you, what sacrifices you are willing to make, and of course the amount of money you are willing to spend. Good Luck!

It could have to do with the compression, but I think Discovery HD looks amazing. Who your service provider is could influence this, some compress more than others.

I couldn't agree more. For the past two weeks I've been experiencing some problems with my Bravia (See my Signature below). There is a horizontal line that keeps showing up @ the bottom of the screen every time the TV is fed with a 1080p signal. At first I thought it was my BD player. Nope. I'm on my fifth try with different players from friends: same thing. The other resolutions (720, 1080i..) show no line whatsoever.
I think I'm gonna call Sony.

I use Time Warner digital cable and I get artifacts and frame lag on HD channels often enough to frustrate me. I don't know if I should blame the source compression, bandwidth, signal quality or the Scientific Atlanta tuner decode. It's no wonder the average consumer isn't hot on HD. I just live with it and thanks the gods for Blu-Ray.

I had a bravia about 3 years ago, and It always bugged me that all my friends were paying way less for sets from other manufacturers that looked much better than mine. I guess that's the sony price gouging.

It's true. I don't mind paying extra for better performance, but not for the name on the bottom of the display. The only store that sells electronics in my city is in love with sony... I can't stand the salesman there, they even wear sony fleeces as uniforms.

Don't get me wrong, I love their products. I just don't like paying more for something that is equal to cheaper products. I have been with sony since the original playstation launched, I still have most of my games.
