I'm not sure if this should go on this forum or the PS3 forum but my roommate bought a new TV tonight, a 37" LG30 720p, and so we hooked up my PS3 to it when it went to automatic settings, low and behold it claimed that we could display at 1080p, the display was set at 1080p and looked fine, but at the same time we were wondering if it was really 1080p, maybe the wrong TV in the wrong box or something like that, or somehow the TV was able to down-rez the 1080p signal into 1080i or 720p. Subsequently we watched an HD DVR recording of a few shows on the TV and it looked a bit grainy, like maybe it was 720 playing on a 1080, but I haven't been around enough 1080p's to know for sure. Any ideas on why we have such a potentially sweet problem?
