ok im sure this has been asked/done a million times, but to hear Dolby TrueHD sounds i need a reciever with HDMI, got that far, but im looking at bestbuy and other sites and they say the reciever doesnt have Dolby TrueHD but its still HDMI, does this matter? Will i still get TrueHD as I know the PS3 does all the work.
thanks, and sorry for the probable re-post |

I was wondering the exact same thing about the TrueHD, but most of the time if you want HDMI 1.3 (deep color) the receiver have the TrueHD (at least I've didn't find a receiver that had HDMI 1.3 without TrueHD decoder)
So what is the use of that?? If the receivers dont get the sound of HDMI why use 2 hdmi cable to go throught the receivers when you could go directly into the TV? |

so it is much better then?
its bugging me i have an awesome tv, about 150 blu rays now and im still using my old 5.1 reciever, its a good one dont get me wrong, i have awesome speakers too, i just dont have the HDMI reciever. so this is a must buy then? EDIT: this is the reciever im looking at, keep in mind this is a CDN price and Onkos are hard to find in Canada http://www.2001audiovideo.com/produc...=TXSR605B&clr= Last edited by Snyder-man; 09-12-2008 at 06:12 PM. |

Yeah it is much better. Much smoother, more presence, kinda hard to describe but I was able to notice right away. I was kinda in the same boat as you (great TV, speakers, blu-ray, but a 10-yr-old Denon receiver with no HDMI whatsoever)... and this week I picked up a Denon AVR-988 at Circuit City on clearance for $649. Sounds AMAZING! I don't regret it at all, since I know I'll be set for the next several years.
That looks like a good price for the Onkyo, and it certainly has all the features you would need. I say go for it! |

You'll notice the difference between lossy and lossless. Im used to lossless now and the other day i put a dvd in and at first was like, the sound on this sucks, why??? then duhhh realized cuz it was a dvd and not bluray...

Yamaha HTR-6160 (same as RXV663) is 499$ at Futureshop... I might be worth considering instead of the Onkyo |

More like "uninformed" than "crazy". There is a noticeable difference between the lossless and the lossy audio.
