Yeah it is much better. Much smoother, more presence, kinda hard to describe but I was able to notice right away. I was kinda in the same boat as you (great TV, speakers, blu-ray, but a 10-yr-old Denon receiver with no HDMI whatsoever)... and this week I picked up a Denon AVR-988 at Circuit City on clearance for $649. Sounds AMAZING! I don't regret it at all, since I know I'll be set for the next several years.

That looks like a good price for the Onkyo, and it certainly has all the features you would need. I say go for it!

The 606 has been available in the US for a few months now, you should be able to get one up there at a reasonable price rather than the 605. If both are new the 606 should only be slightly more expensive, still less than the 705(6).

You'll notice the difference between lossy and lossless. Im used to lossless now and the other day i put a dvd in and at first was like, the sound on this sucks, why??? then duhhh realized cuz it was a dvd and not bluray...

FYI

Yamaha HTR-6160 (same as RXV663) is 499$ at Futureshop... I might be worth considering instead of the Onkyo

Hmm, I would wager to say that when you get a receiver that can play TrueHD, DTS MA, and Lossless PCM, you'll never want to play regular 5.1 again. There is a BIG difference.
