Default Clouds! horrile clouds all over my Sammy A650

So now I got a bigger problem than viewing distance.

Ok I had the A650 for 4 days, and there were a lot of stuck pixels, They gave me a new one, ok.. now I noticed that I have terrible clouds on the screen, horrible white spots that are always visible after 20 or 30 minutes you turn on the TV (yes it gets worst after a while), even on minimal dark scenes i can see them.

I ask you folks, can I return a TV because of that? I have two other LCD HDTVs and I' ve never seen clouds that may really upset me.. I can't finish a single movie.. I don't ever have "black labels.. I have half black/half white labels.. I guess I am going to take a pic and post so you may see the clouds.

You should definitely return this set while you're still under your 30 days; otherwise, you're always going to be annoyed with this. It's not really something you'll get used to. I returned my Sony KDL 46w4100 because of a sparkle issue (before they announced a firmware fix for this) and bad clouding and went with the Samsung a750 instead. The screen is much more uniform, but you run the risk of bad clouding with pretty much any LCD model. It's one of the negatives in going LCD. I'd say exchange this again while you still have the chance. If you can afford slightly extra dough, consider going with the A750... pretty much same PQ, but I hear they don't have as many clouding/purple haze issues that many of the A650s have had. That's also if you don't mind the bezel of the 750, which a lot hate, but I don't really mind.

the sad thing is that where I live we don't have other then the A650 (that is sansung's top of line here), and Sony has the W4100 and the Z4100 (only 46" though).

So I really don't know what to do..

I recently purchased a Sony Kdl52w4100 and the picture is sharp and looks really good. I have noticed when it fades to black between commercials or when changing channels, I can see light discolorations on the screen. Are these "clouds"?

those are exemples of clouds:

Those are not mine but I can say mine is much like that first picture.. even when you have pictures on screen.. clouds are there to degrade the picture quality..

Default MFG Warranty

How does the manufacturer handle this? I will examine my Sony 40V3000 tonight and if they are there, i will get this fixed, or at least try to.

Default LCD = Cloudy

and personally I'd wait for the lightning to come from the clouds...hehe. I really don't like LCD technology any more... plasma gives better picture quality year after year in all the reviews. I switched to plasma. I had banding and clouds on my 46" Sharp 62U tv. Clouds and lightning storms and violent banding, death destruction and the holocaust is all because of LCD...lol.

now in all seriousness... cloudness is bad... altho to a degree it is normal for lcd since individual transistor biasing may be non-homogenous. It's tough to control on lcd... so the pixels are rarely homogenous and travel in packs of non-homogenity

Jeff

Are there any tricks or ways to diminish clouds on an LCD? Besides kicking the screen in!?

I called Sony since Ive only had my TV for a week and they said since there is no one in my area to come look at the TV (a blessing in disguise Im sure) they would just send me a brand new one and pick up the old on at the same time. So by next Thursday I will have my replacement. Sony customer service rocks. So far

i am glad that you are getting good customer service. i was not so fortunate with samsung when i needed them, so note taken about sony!!

i hope the new tv is better than the one your sending back, but i think all lcd's have clouding issues to some degree. i went through 2 samsungs with this problem. the 3rd set still had clouding but not as bad as the previous 2 so i just stuck with it. let us know how it works out for ya

The store doesn't want to change my A650 for a W4100, It is going to be a hell of a fighting btw us, stupid store.

Tell me guys, does Sony W4100 has the clouding issue as much as the A650? I mean, dunno If I pick another A650 or try the W4100.. Is the W4100 a better TV?

I initially had a 46W4100 and it had really bad clouding issues. I exchanged it for a sammy LNa750, which is MUCH better with no noticable clouding on my individual set. The screen is much more uniform.

Welcome to the world of LCD. Go with Plasma if you want a perfect picture.

Yes. Calibrate your LCD .
All Sony LCD sets come out of the box with factory pre-configured 'Vivid' picture setting. Horrible high contrast and high brightness mode. Proper calibration or at least changing picture mode to Custom, Normal or Cinema + lowering brightness & back light will significantly reduce clouding effect.

Cheers
