Default UK's PlayStation Magazine to get monthly Blu-ray cover disc

n a first, the UK's PlayStation Magazine will get a monthly Blu-ray cover disc, starting with the June edition.

The disc will contain playable demos of Sony and third-party software titles, though no specific details have been released yet.

There's also the possibility of PSP demos being put on the disc.

It will be interesting to see if other game and film magazines which currently offer standard DVD covers follow suit with either high definition format. Whilst the unit cost is higher, these magazines are heavily advertisement based, could be sponsored, and command a steep cover price.

I've not bought a games mag for years now but it's great that thousands more BD's will be distributed every month starting June.

There must be so many PlayStation gamers out there still that don't know what either of the new formats are and OPSM-UK will be their first Blu-ray owned. I can imagine some people wanting a PS3 more because they've got this disk and they're itching to see what's on it! Then they'll also want movies to try on their shiny new PS3.

It's a step in the right direction.. and the amount of demos/videos that can fit on a BR disc is going to be great!

Apparently the first four demos will be:
  • Virtua Tennis
  • Resistance: Fall of Man
  • Genji: Days of the Blade
  • Formula One Championship Edition
I don't have a source to confirm this with yet.

Can't see the point, surely the PlayStation Store is the place to get these demo's? Doubt I'll buy it, it will cost silly money

I might grab the June copy just to check it out, although whether I'll subscribe is another matter.

I already get Hi-Fi Choice and Mac Format and they cost a fortune. Why are magazines so expensive?

Still, nice to have additional BDs getting out there.
