Default Best Headphones for watching Movies?

Any recommendations?

I will be hooking them up to an Onkyo 606.
Just so that when the rest of the family are in bed, I can still watch my Movies with all the glory of HD Surround Sound.

Thanks.

If you want advice, you really need to include one important detail: your budget.

I would say my budget was around £150, so that is about $300.

OK. 150 quid should get you a very nice pair of headphones. Check out those made by Sennheiser or Grado, and have fun!

Suppose one did not want to spend quite that much? What would you recommend then?

I'd probably go with something lower down in one of those manufacturers' ranges. I know Sennheiser has models at several different price points.

You only have two ears, so IMHO there's no meaningful concept of surround sound headphones. Not sure of Sennheiser's currentl model line up, but places like musicdirect.com might be a good place to look.

I had a problem with the wireless Sennheisers that run about $100. I bought them for my mother in law who lives in a nursing home so that she could hear her tv without having to hear her roommates tv as well.

After the first few days, the Sennheisers would just lose their wireless signal after about 1/2 hour of use.

Headroom specializes in headphones. They only sell quality headphones. Depending on your needs and budget, you will be happy with almost anything they sell.

Probabley not exactly what you're after, but I picked up a pair of Tritton Ax-360 headphones a few years ago (I think they're still available) that do a great job at surround sound... they even have a rumble feature to enhance the bass! Not bad

Here's a link:

Yeah but unlike headphones, you can hear the locations of 5 or more speakers in a room. That's kinda hard to do when you've got what amounts to a small speaker clamped to each ear.

Hilarious point about 5.1 downgrading to 2.1!

Quick answer; of course you should.

People always say they want to feel "immersed" in the movie, like they're "part of the scene." Lemme tellya somethin', folks: if you hear a noise behind you and look over your shoulder, you're going to see a wall, or a lamp, or a door. There's no screen back there. Kinda makes it hard to suspend your disbelief, IMHO.

Now if you had 5 or 7 channels of video...

I have a pair of Grado SR 225.
Those are amazing in combination with the tv.

The earpads are light-weight and you don't feel them at all. Even after long hours of wearing.

I'm glad i have them. And they are awesome with music too.

just my 2 €-cents
