Default Help with set-up and settings (receiver&speakers)

I will finally have everything for my set-up tomorrow evening... I will be setting up my Sony STR-DG720 and Polk RM6750's. I figured i'd come and ask some of you gurus on how I should have the settings on receiver and what not. The room is fairly small and I know the settings and what not do play a factor in the overall sound...So I was hoping some people could offer some help/suggestions.
Thanks yall

Run the auto calibration with the supplied mic. Make sure the mic is placed at ear level where you will be sitting to watch movies, use a stoll or something to get the right height. In the receiver menu make sure you set the speakers to small and subwoofer to yes. Hook up the tv to the reciever with an HDMI cable. Run an HDMI cable from the PS3 to the BD HDMI port on the reciever. Run the auto setup for audio in the PS3, set the audio out to LPCM. I think the crosover on the sub should be 80Hz I don't remember.

If that receiver allows for you to define crossover frequencies, put your fronts, surround and center at 120hz. This is straight from the Polk manual. This will make sure the LFE/lower frequency stuff those smaller speakers can't handle will be sent to the subwoofer. That way things won't sound boomy or distorted on those little guys.

It'll make a tremendous difference.

*edit* Set the crossover on the sub itself all the way to the right. This'll let the receiver determine if there's a cutoff or not- could get some rolloff if you don't and you'll be missing frequencies. My understanding was to set the limit of the LFE all the way up on 120hz- if you set it on 80 then using my settings above you'd lose somewhere between 80-120hz.

However, I'm still a newbie at that myself and if I'm wrong I'd love to hear it and why.

Use the Auto Calibration... then you can really have the sub set to likek 150 hz because the crossovers are already working from your receiver. Meaning that your sub will be working all frequencies that you need to hear...

Here's a good thread on LPF of LFE and explains what I was alluding to with the sub much better than I can.

Of course, as mentioned I'd do an autocalibration first.

Default SONY STR-DG720 Set Up Problems!

I am setting up my Sony STR-DG720 with my Polk RM6750s....However I am missing a cord for my sub so I am not hooking it up yet. I am running the auto calibration and every time it gets to the back left speaker it goes into "Protect" and turns the system off....ANYYYY Suggestions??!?

My suggestion is that channel speakers wires are touching (the red is touching the black). Check the back of your receiver and see if any wires are touching or anything metal is touching the speakers terminals.

Yep its the same...just run the auto calibration for the receiver to get the distance of the speakers and set the crossover and when this is done you can then make your adjustments if needed.

For now since you don't have your Sub hook up..it won't be perfect.

You have 2 thread on the same topic...

Only set A. If you have set B selected, deselect it.

Set B should only have two speaker outputs.

Theres a bunch of connections for other speakers on the back of the sub...? Kinda confusing me should I just use the red and white on the back of the sub that go into a black connector in the back of my receiver?

Use the left or right output on your sub to your subwoofer in on your receiver.
