Default Help with my Audio Setup please

what I have:

Sony STRDG520 Reciever (Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS decoders) (1080p HDMI pass-through)

Bose Acoustimass 6 Series III Home Entertainment Speakers (5.1 package)

Sony BDPS350 Blue Ray player (Dolby True HD and DTS-HD decoder)

I understand my reciever does not support Dolby True HD and DTS-HD but the blue ray player does. My question is what audio settings should I be using with the reciever and setup I have? I am using HDMI cables aswell.

I just want to know whats the best possible audio setup I can have and what I should set the reciever and blue ray player audio options to.

thanks to anybody that can help

Sorry, but your receiver uses hdmi for video only not audio. Use the toslink input for audio. Or trade in for the Sony Str-DG720 which does do audio over HDMI.

You can't get lossless audio ( Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD or DTS-HD Master Audio) with that receiver/player combination. You could with the Sony Str-DG720 receiver.

The best you can get with the 520, is regular Dolby Digital & DTS.

Trying to get your post count up?

Anyways, Zippo is correct that a receiver that is "Pass-Through" does NOT handle audio. It merely acts as a source switcher for your television. You need to get a receiver that can process audio thru HDMI.

In the mean time; The next best thing for you would be optical connections.

Good Luck.

follow this to set receiver:

1. Connect the digital jack of the player
and your AV amplifier (receiver).

2. Set “Audio Output Priority” to
“Coaxial/Optical” in the “Audio
Settings” setup (page44).

3. Make the appropriate settings in
“Dolby Digital” and “DTS” under the
“Audio Settings” setup (page45)

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I will get an optical cable for now and set it up that way till I upgrade my reciever. I had no idea it did not handle HDMI audio when I bought it. for now I'll have to live with it lol

correct me if im wrong, but the s350 can only Bitstream Dts-HD MA, so you would need a receiver that can decode...the 720 wouldn't cut it.

You would need an 820 or higher. Or an Onkyo 605/606 and higher, Yamaha 663, Pioneer 1018 etc.
