Default Playing mp3 while watching a blu-ray on ps3?

Is it possible to play a mp3 file that you have imported onto your ps3 while watching a blu-ray? I am getting ready for the release of Baraka and I always used to play on my turntables and create my own soundtrack while the movie was playing...but now that I have a dedicated HT room, don't have the turntables in there.

No

you can not play any files while a DVD or Blu-ray is playing. As soon as you try to access them, it will ask you to quit the movie playback.

If you want to play files, I suggest you use a laptop to do your mixing.

Thanks. But then if I have my laptop hooked up to the AV receiver, I have to choose one or the other, right? It has to be either BD or AUX, no?

Some receivers allow you to change to an audio only source and keep the video source. For example, at my house, I can turn my receiver to the PS3 to look at photos or Life with Playstation, and then change my receiver to CD, which uses no video. This keeps the PS3 video going but changes the sound to CD.
It works very well for me but you have to check to see if your receiver does this.

I've got to say the Xbox 360 media center has an advantage over the PS3 in this sense. Sony needs to improve their players capabilities.

I seriously think this is a senseless feature to add. Not many people would want to play a digital audio file WHILE watching the video from DVD/BD/video file. In addition, such usage will only confuse people who have already learned the basics of BD playback on the PS3.

That's true...I don't see many people wanting to do this. I myself only want to do it with Baraka, and maybe some other CG VJ mixes I have on DVD. But, can you play ps3 games and use your own soundtrack like you can with xbox 360?

I disagree. I wish my ps3 could play mp3 music while I play a game or watch a movie. I'm hoping future updates will allow ps3 to play music when a movie or game is played.

sony already released the patch that allows music playback during gaming, however, not all games support this yet. i don't see any need for mp3 music playback during movies though

Fine, it's not a senseless feature for YOU. For 96% of the rest of the PS3 owners, it is senseless.

You need to figure out what productive things to do with your spare time. Seriously.

Probably not but you can cook some food from the heat it generates from playing blu-ray discs.
Takes about 20-30 for steaks and 15-20 for weiners.
