Default looking to upgrade

i have a new samsung LN46A550, ps3, and a Yamaha HTR-5930 with JBL speakers.

I was looking to upgrade the receiver and maybe speakers. budget is a little tight so i cant spend $800 on a receiver. something around the $500 is good.

thanks

Just my opinion -- but I think you should spend your money on the best receiver you can afford and wait for another day on the speakers. You're better off buying quality components rather than upgrading mediocre stuff to slightly better mediocre stuff. One day you'll upgrade the speakers and possibly leapfrog your receiver. Technology is a rabbit you cannot catch.

+1.

Your JBL's will work fine for now. Look into a higher-end receiver like the Yamaha RX-V1800 or, if you're in Canada, the Yamaha HTR-6190B. After that upgrade your speakers one step at a time.

I couldn't agree more. It may take a little longer to get there, but the end result will much better and more satisfying. I'm having exercising patience right now, for my speaker upgrade, so I know how you (the OP) feel. :-)
