Bedroom? $4,000?! Klipsch subwoofer?! There are lot of things to consider here friend! Why the bedroom?!

Have you done your research? Listened to your speaker options? Considered online brands? I think I'm the only one who's posted for help who actually went through an arduous 4-5 month learning/research/hearing process before making my decisions.

Onkyo TX-SR806 (check cart for awesome price)

Elemental Designs A2 - 300 Subwoofer

...I'm sure others can recommend nice speakers, you will have plenty of cash to make the most of it! (speakers are probably the most important component for audio reproduction)

But Id definitely consider that Receiver/Sub combo.

If you want to put 4k worth of stuff in your room, do it. Nothing wrong with that. It all depends on the size of the room. I don't have my own place so everything i own is currently in my bedroom.

Do you have a nice TV and Bluray player already or are you just looking to upgrade your sound system?

Although I have a lot of respect for Paul Klipsch (R.I.P.), I never cared for horn speakers.

I like Axiom Audio speakers. They are excellent and highly-rated speakers that are sold at reasonable prices.

Their M60s are a great alternative to Polk and Klipsch offerings - I hate the ohm catch with the M80s though. They are great speakers as per what I've read, never listened to them, though.

I'm with you on this one. I've never cared for horns, and Axiom makes a great speaker for their price point.

Also to the OP, for your budget you could get yourself into reasonably priced separates from Emotiva. Their UPA-7 amp and UMC-1 processor (due to release soon) will run you about $1600 shipped. That might sound cheap, but they sell factory direct so there's no middle-man/retailer to markup the gear 3 to 4 times more, and trust me their gear WILL perform. It might be overkill for a room, but I say start there anyway since you have the budget.

Amplifiers? Separates? For a bedroom? Heck, if we're gonna start down this route, let's get the fella some Rotel gear and some 800 series B&Ws,

Then it will no longer be a bedroom.

My whole setup is in my bedroom. Separates would be a good idea in my opinion.

Really, though, why not since the budget is there? Is he going to be in the bedroom forever, or did I misunderstand and this is a 2nd setup for the bedroom?

I've also demo'd gear from Rotel to McIntosh, and to be honest, while I won't put Emo in the same league as Mc, you can't convince me to spend $5k+ more for an amp and I wouldn't take Rotel over Emo, either. Just my .0199999 cents.

Bottom line, Luke, is that - he's going to have a hell of a set-up in the bedroom.

Still hasn't explained to us why the bedroom and not the living room! College student dorm set-up?? Parents house set-up? I'm trying to fathom other reasons!

(and on the amplifier note, I'm just going by what I've heard - I've much to learn about separate amps, that's my next order of learning - I've seen Louie's Emotivas, and the both of you do seem to recommend them)

Totally. I would have LOVED to have started out with a $4k budget when I first got into this stuff. Of course, if he is in a dorm room I wouldn't exactly want that kind of gear advertising itself to other tenants.

No biggie on the amp thing, I'm not trying to make myself out to be an amp guru or anything, I have much to learn myself. I can just hear the difference which is what counts in the end. BTW, great choice on all your new gear, JJ. The Marantz 7002/8002 were my top choices as well when I was shopping AVRs earlier this year, and I love B&W & ML. I plan on going all ML's (not sure which yet) sometime next year if the budget allows for it.

Arcam AVR 280 Receiver

Monitor Audio Silver 5.1 setup:

RS6 fronts
RSFX surrounds
RSLCR center
RPW-12 subwoofer

Blu ray player with 5.1 analogs and internal decoding of HD codecs.

Google for reviews and test them out locally, in a performance to dollar ratio you just can't compare it to Klipsch , Axiom etc.

I actually just converted from Klipsch and have absolutely no regrets. I am also saving up for the step up version of that receiver the AVR 350.

Edit> depending where you buy from but if you buy smart you can do it all except the Blu player for around 3800.00.

A Martin Logan Dynamo under the bed would be a better alternative to Viagra.

The Emotiva are priced really nicely! I'm just wondering with two 7 ch amps do you bi-amp all your speakers...

I'm looking at getting a separate amp in the near future but I will probably bi-amp only the front speakers... (all my wires are already in-wall anyway but adding another set for the fronts won't be that bad...)
