Default a little confused.

Hello everyone,

this is my first post, and im sure wont be my last. im now part of the club with my first bd player it is a Magnavox nb500mg9 from walmart. so here's my problem: my tv is an older toshiba 65" theater wide its a nice set but only has component video in my a/v receiver is real old and needs to be replaced. I would like to add dolby true hd & dts hd to the theater , but wondering if I replaced my a/v receiver with a new one that decodes those formats would I be able to send my video from my bd player over component,to the tv , while at the same time sending the audio bit stream to the new a/v receiver for hd audio over the hdmi connection. Thanks in advance for help , and it is a pleasure to be part of this forum.
-Shawn

unfortunatly no, you have to use hdmi or multi channel out for hd audio. And that magnavox does not support multi out.

Have you possibly misinterpretted the question. He wants to send the audio over HDMI and the video over component. I'm pretty sure this can be done with a PS3, but I'm not familiar with the Magnavox. Depending on the receiver as well, is it possible to have video and audio go to the receiver over HDMI and then the video leaves via component?

Wish I knew the answers myself

Yeah thats what I get for skimming, I guess it depends on the player. I honestly do not know if that player can do that. Your best bet is to go to the player forum here or at the avs forum and ask people with that player as I'm sure that it has come up before. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Yes,the PS3 can run audio through HDMI and video through components seperately at the same time. Just be sure your Receiver accepts HDMI and a PCM Signal...

Are you talking about using HDMI for audio and then running component for video? I had that player for about a week and exchanged it.
