Default I am so confused.

I have an onkyo txsr804 and I like the price of the sony s350. Let me see if I can explain this right. I think I need a blu player that has all the decoders in it to send it pcm to my receiver. But will this receiver accept them and play all the newer sounds they have today. Thanks

yes, the 804 will accept them (my thinking is its only 5.1 PCM, but not positive. Should state in your user manual)

So you would need a player that decodes.

The Sony S550, Panny BD35/55 or a PS3 would all be sufficient.

I am looking at the sony s350. I was told that after an update it would have all the decoders that the s550 have. Is this correct?

well, Ive not heard of any update...but who knows.

I have an S350 and its nice...fairly similar to my PS3 only a lot less potential.

But it does decode TrueHD so you would at least get that. (and you can probably live with lossy Dts for the time being!)

I have not heard that Sony plans to upgrade the DTS to HD via firmware, but the Panasonic 35K comes with BD Live and DTS HD decoders right out of the box, without needing firmware updates. I would say that the Sony is a nice BDP, but if you need internal decoding I would def. go with the panasonic 35K, same price, everything you need right when you take it out of the box, I have one and I love it.

I have a newer Denon receiver and notice that unlike when my dvd player was attached to the player, the DTS or Dolby light doesn't light up on the receiver

I'm connecting for sound my Sony S350 through optical and to my TV with HDMI.

Should I change priority on the players settings to Optical?

Downstream or set to DTS and Dolby which I've already done.
