Default 7.1 speaker setup suggestion please

I've decided recently that I'm going to finally get an HD sound setup, and I'm picking up the Onkyo TX-SR705 or something similar, and I'm going to need some speakers to go with it. Does anyone have any suggestions, preferably a whole 7.1 speaker set bundle? The cheaper, the better, since money is fairly tight, and I don't need anything absolutely amazing for my first setup. Thanks guys.

Many are going to suggest that you just buy some nice mains and save money to buy the rest of your surround set up as you go along. That is one option, but I also understand and agree with the desire to experience surround sound NOW. I would however say to just go with 5.1 at first. There are SO FEW movies that actually have true 7.1 soundtracks yet to make 7.1 worth it at this point.

What is your budget and I'm sure we can find some suggestions for you.

Nothing really set for a budget right now, as I will probably wait till around Christmas to see what comes in for cash/gift certificates. I'd like to keep it around 500$ of less if possible, although I'm sure that's not really too realistic.

Looking at Onkyo's site, I was considering this although I want to look up some reviews first.

Yeah... don't do that. If you really want a speaker package, get a 5.1 set like the Polk RM6750 or the Klipsch Quintet set that Best Buy has at a pretty good price.

Outside of that, start auditioning some speakers and get a center and some fronts, then slowly add what you want later. You'll be happier you did. I purchased the Polk RM6750 and while it's a great little satellite/sub set for the price, I'm much happier with my current setup. I went the same route you did. You'd be better off getting a 606 or 605 and put the extra money in your speakers.

THIS.

Although... be aware that eD sub is a BEAST.

If money is an issue, Fluance is a Canadian speaker manufacturer that has good 5 speaker options for $199 and $299. They are all factory-direct special sale prices. You still need to add a subwoofer and two additional speakers for 7.1 setup.

I know that its hard to be patient and build a set up, but in the long run you will be soo much happier than rushing into buying something cheap. The polk fronts and center would be a great place to start, once you have those the surrounds can be purchased easily at a lower cost, the sub may be the only other thing you would have to save for.

I would stay away from home theatre box sets, they always seem to leave to much behind.

Dude! I'm looking at your BD collection and you have 90 of them...Now if you can afford to buy that many movies over time I'm sure you can save just as much as you spent on your movies and put that toward the $500 you already have in budget. Wait out a little bit and save up some more so you wont regret your 1st HT. I don't wanna see you here again in 3-6months wanting to upgrade because you're unhappy with what you have
