HEATED debate going on here about this......

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=71124

it comes down to personal preference I think.

ALSO.... I always "thought" and I could be wrong....... but LCD panels costs rise based on the size more than Plasma, which starts off as a higher fixed cost.....

SO for instance... 20" LCD is a lot cheaper to make than a 20" plasma, but 60" Plasma is a lot cheaper to make than a 60" LCD.....

I could be wrong though.... so I was always told, given availability etc..... you should get a plasma/LCD depending on the size you're looking for, and the cost of such a unit.......

I haven't seen any LCD that matches a Pioneer Kuro. First choice projector, second plasma. If gaming is a concern then an LCD is worth considering.

This is something that fascinates me. I'm in the market for a 50+ inch panel TV for my bedroom/soon to be theater room ( ) and I see people say that they game frequently on a Plasma and don't have any problems and there are some who complain about IR or worry about burn-in and all. I'm currently interested in the Panny 50" PZ85u but I keep going back and forth when I do my researching because of the mixed feeling about gaming.

Go to the link Beta Man posted above and read the post I wrote concerning gaming/IR on my Panny Plasma.

Yeah, I remember reading your post. The deal at the moment on the Panny with the Blu-ray player is really good so I'm tempted to get the Plasma...your post definitely has gotten me leaning more towards it.

I have had my plasma for over three months and had not played a second of games on it since last week, I was scared to play but I did anyway playing Gears Of War 2 for 5 hours and then the next day for four hours and did not have any IR.

i had a samsung plasma 42" and loved it, remeber to allow the inital 200hours of burn in before playing games etc.. (which i did) I moved so i sold allot fo stuff including the tv. I am now settled and bought a samsung 40" LCD (now think of this, the LCd tv i have now is 2 yearsnewer than the plasma i had and same manufacturer) and i like the tv but its not half as good as the plasma. The blacks are awesome on plasma's and LCd's try but they cant reproduce solid blacks, i would go with plasma then projector then lcd. I have a HDTV projector with 100" screen but projectors dont get bright enough picture compared to even the LCD

with ambient light levels you will never get a projector as bright as a plasma its impossible, i still LOVE my projector and its the best way to watch movies

Projectors are not designed to be used in an environment with any sort of ambient light (as I'm sure you are aware). In a darken room, however, they put-out more than enough light needed for properly viewing the picture. I can't wait until I finally get my theater room started and finished so I can finally enjoy a 110"+ screen!

btw: you should now that here in Central Europe isn't $5000 the same amount as is in US, here is all much more expensive, so my $5000 is the same amount as lets say $3500 in US

Well.... although I didn't spend nearly $2,500 for my projector, I'd say any projector falling under the $10k mark (when they begin to see a lot of noticeable improvements/features) would be "cheaper"

Not that there is anything wrong with them of course....... I love my rinky-dink 720p/1080i projector, but it's as "Low End" as you can get without sacrificing the necessities.....
