I have been using the stereo speakers on my TV for a while but about a week ago I pulled out my 5 year old 5.1 Altec Lansing speakers to try out.
Now for the problem. I swear, everytime a good sounding movie starts, (ex. Wall-E, Cars) the sound is just breathtaking and its so much better than the TV speakers. But for some reason, by the end of the movie everything sounds so dull and in some cases I get literally sick feeling from the sound. I dont have the sound blasting loud, so I dont know why this happens. Anyone have an idea about why this is happening? |

I don't get headaches but the sounds just sound really annoying and dull, opposed to the bright and dynamic sounds I hear at the beginning of the movie. And I know it sounds stupid but I have put it off and tried watching about five more movies (blu-ray and dvd) and the same thing happens every time. I also feel really tired, even when watching in the middle of the day.

Sadly, its an all in one computer 5.1 system. So its basically 1 headphone jack for the center, and the rest are like modified RCA cables. Im just wondering if Its even worth looking into a real system when I cant enjoy it anyways. At the same time, it could be the crappy speakers doing it so I dont know.

Yeah I'd maybe guess listening fatigue. The sound may be too bright and harsh and ends up just ... wearing you out.
Have you tried going over to a friend's place and watching a whole movie on their setup? Does the same thing occur? How about at the theater? Same, or are you ok? It may be the speakers, or it may be you, or it may be a combination of both. You might have to do some shopping to find what sounds comfortable to you. |

If it does sound better, you could have a problem with the receiver. You can also tell if you have sound fatigue - just eardrums getting burned out from listening to too much, for too long. Since you're not playing at very loud volume, that may not be it. Good luck! |

No amp.... no receiver. PC speakers plugged in to the headphone out on the tv.

It will just flatten out the sound. Capacitors that try to hold juice for louder passages will just heat up, poop out, and everything will go flatter than a pancake. It's not fatigue on the part of the human - it's fatigue on the part of the electronics. |
