Hdmi connections question - Blu-ray Forum

I just purchased a Sony Blue ray player s550 model.

I have a Front Projector with an hdmi input. My current reciever does NOT have one.

My question is To get the best picture quality can I hook up hdmi from player to projector and player to reciever using a different output like optical or coaxil to get the sound?
Or will I have to settle with justing using one source till I upgrade my reciever?

( currently I have componant cable from satelite to reciever to projector)

YES, Then switch sources at the Projector
HDMI = Blu-Ray, Component = Satelite
you can use the analog from the 550 to give you HD sound

I there that much difference in video quality between hdmi and optical

there is no video over optical...

what receiver do you have ??

It has 7.1 audio inputs... soooooo.... Just connect your 550 and wa la !! HDS Sound !!

Cool Thanks so will I loose alot of quality if I do Not use hdmi for the video and just hook it up through the receiver
