Default What can you do with Linux?

I have a PS3 and I know that I can install Linux, but what can I do with it? How will I benifit from installing it? Are there key features that will make someone want to install it on their PS3?

That depends. Linux is just an operating system like XP or Mac O/S. It's very popular amongst some communities for various reasons. If you want to push the PS3 towards an even more flexible media player, it maybe the answer. If it ain't broke, I would suggest not fixing it. I have a couple of tasks for my PS3 so I will throwing Linux on it, then again I have been using UNIX (Linux is just a flavor of UNIX) in a commercial environment. If you don't have a need for Linux and no experience with it, I would use the PS3 as it comes, as it can do most media activities.

Hi - I've installed linux - I use the PS3 as a media server for my Pinnacle Showcenter (running swisscenter - not great but works). Its not the perfect solution but until Sony supports NTFS on external USB drives and playing of vobs/xvid I can at least lose the PC from the front room (ps3 is a lot quieter as well) that used to do this job (I also use an application called aria2 to download bittorrents).
Other than that the web browsing is much better than the internal browser (and you can use thunderbird for emails etc).
It is a pain having to switch back between OS's all the time.
