I just saw this on IGN and wanted to get some opinions.
http://dvd.ign.com/articles/824/824654p1.html Does anyone else think this feature is useless? |

It's useless till it comes to blu-ray, then it'll be fantastic!
![]() I don't get it, eventually interactivity will be matched such that the only difference between the formats will be the size and data rate. Just because a feature isn't used by someone, doesn't mean another person doesn't find value in it. I doubt I'd waste my time on it, tell you what, I wouldn't mind a feature that allowed me to find out what a piece of music playing during a scene was etc. hmm... I could see a few uses for such technology. |

I agree 100%. If you have to waste your time playing with silly movie interactive features then you need to get a life!!! All of these extra features are worthless. Give me the best PQ/AQ and I will be happy. That is the whole point of home theater, not the other gibberish.

You guys realise that unless we end up getting that optimised "natures journey" encode (or whatever it was that literally maxed out the capabilities of both formats) that we'll end up with a couple or more spare gigs to play around with right?
I don't think claiming people who would use such a feature have no life is a valid argument.. afterall, lots of people consider spending large sums of money on an optical disc format and then spending time worrying about format wars and posting online about it to be a rather spurious use of time! Anyway, enough contrary talk for me. |

afaik, movie releases on disc are within 2-4 months of general release these days, and product placement can be for current or even future products (e.g. lots of upcoming products in Casino Royale or alllll kinds of other products).
Infact, I can think of several ways of selling things based on brand/internet connectivity alone forgetting about individual products that were placed. Some people want interactivity. 50 gigs of AVC vs 48 gigs AVC + interactivity, well, not everyone is that much of a stickler. |

This is definitely a great feature, espcially when you do get past the realm of movies themselves. Instead of printing up massive paper catalogs, the JC Penny catalog could be done on a disc in this fashion. TV series, soundtracks, related things, etc. Lots of possibilities.

This functionality will fail miserably regardless if it's on DUD or blu-ray.

It may fail for movie discs, but remember that some of the best selling things out there aren't movies. It's stuff like the interactive games from Hasbro when it comes to DVD and interactivity. Remember that one of Blu-rays biggest strengths is the broad uses it can handle. This is one of those things that will expand it.
