Question blu-ray combos

I'm all for blu-ray but I'm surprised blu-ray didn't make combo disc at least alot of people would jump on blu-ray so they could have either options

who here think they should have come out with it?

I would not want a combo mainly because my kids would want to use the disc in the van, in their portable players, etc., like they do now and we inevitably end up with scratched discs.

They don't handle them like I do with kid gloves.

Combos may work for people without kids, or kids that are more careful than mine.

No combos for me.

You know - I agree. What is the downside to a combo other than asthetics? I would buy Happy Feet and any other 'kid' friendly title on Blu-Ray the day they came out, but don't because I don't want to limit by kids to having to watch a movie on one TV in my household. Plus, they can't take it with them on travel. Case in point is that I bought Open Season when it was released only to see how limited I was from that point on - so I sold it on Ebay and won't be making the same choice anytime soon.

As for this - they make these great CD/DVD clear plastic covers that slip onto the disc very easily. It keeps the disc from getting scratched, and the DVD laser reads right through it. I have them on all of my Disney Complete Collections that my daugther watches all the time. Haven't tried it yet, but I don't see why they wouldn't work on Blu-Ray discs as well.

I was really surprised so many people are against this. If you get the same product...what does it matter if it has DVD also?

Now what I'd really like to see is a PS3 game that comes with a PSP version that you can download over to the handheld...but that is for another forum.

Imagine if your kid wants a Happy Meal. Now THIS Happy Meal has fries that are so tasty, they are dripping with transfat. And imagine that they ONLY sell Happy Meals this way.

So you don't want your kids to eat the fries but you end up paying for them anyway. That's the whole point of the no-combo argument.

IF, and a very unlikely IF, the BD supporting studios puts out BD/DVD combo that not only matches the standalone DVD in content and provides even MORE content on the BD layer, but also is the same price as a regular BD, then the nay-sayers may reconsider.

Otherwise, it's a no.

I would buy them. I get lot of movies then loan them to my parents or someone else. plus my wife prefers to watch movies in our bedroom on the 20'' SD lcd tv we have in there, while I prefer the 56'' 1080p dlp in the living room. so 1 disc with both would be nice. wasn't there a disc created by some students that had blu-ray hd-dvd and dvd layers all on 1 disc? that would be nice without the hd dvd crap on it. or a double sided.

you people are missing the market value

people could be buying blu-ray faster that way and when they do get BD player they would already have the movie instead double buying

If we get combo discs we end up with flippers and no labels. Can't read them without a magnifying glass. Its no different than the stinkin THD Warner is going to cram down our throats. No thanks and won't buy.

Death to combos!!

I can see some peoples views, about portable players and being able to play them on any player in the house.. but it's not enough reason to produce combos!

I see it the other way. the complaints about ''no label'' on the disc seem trivial. being able to play it all over the house I think is a better feature than a label, that's why they have cases. I don't have a way to burn a regular dvd from a blu-ray. hell i'd pay a couple bucks more for a dvd/blu-ray 2 disc set.

Yeah, but then how is blu-ray establishing it's self away from DVD?
It is the successor to DVD (imo) and need's to be it's own disc.

Let the HD-DVD fanboys have combos..

hell yeah, blu-ray, bd-rom, i don't see DVD in any of that

i've bought about a dozen blurays in the past weeks, on a PS3 hooked up to a 42 inch plasma and a Denon AVR, there's no turning back now, I can't honestly stand watching DVD's now.

Of the 75 just announced HD DVD titles only 4 are Combos and none of those are kid movies.
