Default Any good deals on Receivers?

I have all my speakers but I'm still trying to decide on a good receiver. I have polk 60's all the way around and a CS2 center. I have a ps3 as my blu-ray. Has anyone seen any great black Friday deals for receivers? I'm trying to stay under $400. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your time in advance.

I just received my Sony 920 today, wow that is a nice piece of equipment. Amazon had it for $350 the other day. I bought it for $380. Loud, clean and easy to set-up. Onkyo 606 is good, Yammy 663 is great, or what I would recommend would be the Pioneer 1018. I really liked that receiver but size kept me from buying it. The sony was 2nd on my list, so thats what I got, and have no regrets after listening to it in my own home.

SQ is excellent. It is a vast improvement over my Sony 710. I listened to all the major 4 AVR's in this category price range, the Pioneer 1018 I thought was the best overall. Sony, Yamaha, Onkyo 606 pretty much all the same. <- is pretty much how my list went too(P,S,Y,O). I have yet to turn it up beyond -12.0 dB, cause it gets pretty loud. Zero distortion, and I have been testing it with almost every BD I own. Actually I have yet to watch a full movie... funny how that works. I haven't tested the upconversion yet, but that is cause I don't have anything that isn't hooked up any way except HDMI.I would def. recommend this receiver to anyone.

Honestly, after listening to all of them, like I said the Pioneer 1018 I liked the best, but really all of them are pretty much in the same boat as one another. I went with Sony for 4 reasons, familiarity cause I already owned one, went to sony style store got to listen to it on MY speakers, Pioneer was to big to fit in the AV rack, and the $70 price drop on amazon. But really, I am so happy with this receiver.

^^^Great receiver, huh?

I have found that -20 to -15 is the best range for watching movies. -15 for TrueHD and around -18 for PCM and DTS-HDMA.

The new Sony receivers are really great!!

...
Is there a way to bypass the upconversion? I'm wondering because I plan on picking up this same unit and I'm concerned if I pass everything through the AVR (which I plan on doing obviously) what will be doing the upconvert? I have my PS3 going direct to my Panny display now but what will happen when I get the AVR?

Jason, Yes Oh man do I love this receiver, a great pickup. PCM was loud, casino royal, I think I was at -21 or so. DDTHD, yeah a little higher -14.0 or there abouts, and DTS somewhere in between.

Abouna, any signal going in via HDMI comes out with the resolution that it went in with, only component and video inputs are converted. Nothing will change with your PS3.

Oh, Jason, what do you have your rear crossover set for I set it to 100 and 80 for fronts and center. Also, after it auto-calibrated it said Full Flat, Engineer and 2 other options, what was that and what did you select?? I left it at full flat???? IDK. Also, those rear binding posts were not what I expected... that was the only part I didn't like.

The rear binding posts are like most others that accept banana plugs...

I left mine at full flat and set all of my x-overs at 80, I have had good results with that so far...

You guys might find that shutting that feature off of doing the autocal will actually sound better.. I had the dg910 and that is what I found. I set up the speakers manually..

I must love my movies LOUD. I watch movies at around 0 almost everytime. I watched Iron Man today with some friends. They jumped up and back when they heard and felt the Humvee explosion in the beginning.

I just got a screamin' deal on a Yamaha HTR-6080 receiver, which is identical to the RX-V861 model from 2007. I bought it new online for $277 shipped, and the retail price in 2007 was $999. It doesn't have Dolby True HD or DTS-HD MA decoders on board, but my PS3 will decode them to uncompressed linear PCM.

Here's the feature description and a review of it:

There are definitely some deals out there if you hunt around. This is one of several Yamaha models I've had my eyes on, and I was stunned to see it at such a low price.

Broadwayphoto.com has the Yamaha RX 663 for $325 and the Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH for $481.00. Shipping costs are 45 for the Yamaha and 50 for the Pioneer.
